Black Forest Road

Construction Update

October 17, 2023

Flagging operations, temporary lane closures at Black Forest Road and Silver Ponds Heights Oct. 23

Motorists will encounter flaggers and one-lane operations at the intersection of Black Forest Road and Silver Ponds Heights from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23. The temporary closures are in anticipation of shifting traffic to the west onto new pavement to allow for construction of the east half of Black Forest Road.

This work may cause delays of several minutes each time. As part of this work, a temporary alignment connecting Silver Ponds Heights to the new pavement will be in place while construction of the eastern half is ongoing.

The work there, just north of Research Parkway, marks the northern edge of the project where the project team is transitioning new four-lane roadway to existing two-lane roadway to the north. Additionally, the traffic switch on Black Forest Road will allow for the addition of a lane on eastbound Research Parkway at Black Forest Road. Currently, there is one lane for all traffic. The new configuration will provide dedicated left and right turn lanes.

Copper Peak Point remains closed

Work continues in and around Copper Peak Point, the access road between Black Forest Road and the Copper Range Apartments. That access will remain closed indefinitely for the safety of the traveling public and construction team.

Stay Informed

The project is widening the roadway to two lanes in each direction between Woodmen Road and Research Parkway. Funded through the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) “A” List of projects, work is scheduled to be complete in late 2024.
