Vollmer Road is scheduled to reopen at Black Forest Road by end of next week, barring unexpected severe weather events

Crews started paving the intersection of Vollmer and Black Forest roads Friday, June 2.  Paving and striping is anticipated to be finished later next week, weather dependent. The intersection will reopen after striping is completed.

“We deeply appreciate the patience of everyone who uses that intersection,” said Mike Chaves, engineering manager for the City of Colorado Springs. “Work there has been at the mercy of the weather for the past several weeks, and crews have had to repair flood damage and take measures to prevent additional flood damage before making meaningful forward progress.”

Cowpoke Road Temporary Closure

Cowpoke Road west of Black Forest Road to Gray Ghost Drive was closed this week. The closure is anticipated to last approximately three weeks. 

Cowpoke Road Detour

During this closure, eastbound Cowpoke Road traffic headed toward Black Forest Road will be detoured south on Tutt Boulevard, then east on Woodmen Road. Westbound Cowpoke Road traffic from Black Forest Road will be detoured south to westbound Woodmen Road, then to northbound Tutt Boulevard.

A temporary closure of Cowpoke Road east of Black Forest Road has not been rescheduled at this time. The project team is reevaluating construction phasing at this location.

Copper Peak Point remains closed:

Work continues in and around Copper Peak Point, the access road between Black Forest Road and the Copper Range Apartments. That access will remain closed indefinitely for the safety of the traveling public and construction team.

Stay Informed

The project is widening the roadway to two lanes in each direction between Woodmen Road and Research Parkway. Funded through the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) “A” List of projects, work is scheduled to be complete in late 2024.
