Scouts BSA Launches Feb 1

Tomorrow, February 1st, the iconic Boy Scout program will be offered to Boys and Girls under the new Scouts BSA program. This is an historical move for the Scouting program to impact the lives of young ladies. Troops operate separately from existing troops, but can be linked and have the same committee.

How to use Social Media to Spread the word on Scouts BSA

On Feb 17 the Black Hawk District will host a Scouts BSA Boot Camp for 12 year old boy and girl Scouts, think of the day as a Kit-Fox type program focusing on Scouting skills for the early ranks.

How Many: First 100 Scouts
Cost: $80/$90/$100

Daily events will be themed around STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) topics, with a focus being hands on learning experiences and minimal "talk time" for our active Cub Scouts. Parents or Adult Partners are highly encouraged to attend alongside their child, your scout will surely get more out of this camp along side their parent or Adult Partners. The day camp leadership is partnering with industry experts in STEM fields to ensure the top quality programs are available for this camp.

webelo … Webelo … WEBELOS!!
P - Present your Webelos with a Letter of Intent. You can obtain it from your District Executive or email me. It’s a simple letter and can be a fun activity having a small signing cereamony. 
L - Log into the “Lost Boys” Google sheets doc and enter the Webelos intended destination by Scout Sunday, February 3, 2019
A - Ask the Troop to come to your Arrow of Light crossover ceremonies. 
N - No Webelo is left behind - Troops will begin contacting the Webelos without and intended Troop listed in Google sheets on March 1, 2019

Cedars Pre-Camp Leader Meetings
March 2 at 10:00 - 12:00
This is an opportunity to learn about the changes and improvements at Camp Cedars for 2019. There is no cost to attend. Lunch will be provided to those who register their attendance by Tuesday, February 26, 2019.

  • Topics will include:Introduction of key camp staff
  • Summer program schedule
  • Paperwork requirements & preparation
Camp tours will be available to anyone wishing to take a look around following the meeting.

Tri-State High Adventure Base
Canoe 160 miles down the Missouri river visiting state and national parks through primitive and "city" Camping. Great option for Scouts who are looking for an additional challenge. Learn More
Family Adventure Expo
When: September 20 - 22
Who: All Scouts and Public
Where: Papillion Landing
Cost: $7/$15/$25

The objectives of this event are to create a positive image and public awareness of the Scouting program in the Omaha Metro by allowing the public to experience the adventure of Scouting together as a family. 

This event will serve a second opportunity for families to join Scouting who missed the recruitment events at the beginning of School. There will be Scout Skill competitions throughout the day for Patrols to participate in and for the public to spectate. Other stations will be open throughout the day for both Cub Scouts and the Public to learn more about scouting and experience activities. This event will be like a Jubilee in some respects, but on a smaller scale and open to the public.

Black Hawk District Dinner

Join us for an evening of fun to recognizing Eagle Scouts and fellow Scouting volunteers for their outstanding service to our district! This event is open to all scouters and those who support scouters and scouting. Special recognition will be given to the district's 2018-2019 Eagle Scouts. This individual made a difference. Every unit in the Black Hawk District has at least one candidate for the Black Hawk Talon Award. It is time to recognize their contributions. Nominations are still being accepted for all awards except District Award of Merit. A reception with cupcakes will follow the awards presentation.

Scouting for Food is an annual community service effort supported directly by the Mid-America Council and partner organizations in our local community. Under the Boy Scouts of America's strategic pillar of being recognized as an advocate for youth and youth issues, Scouts across Nebraska and Western Iowa collect nearly 200,000 food items for those in need. This is the equivalent of approximately 114,000 meals.
Introducing our new Black Hawk Teammate!
Jason Triplett will serve the Black Hawk District primarily serving the Westside and Millard School Districts as the District Director as of March 1st. Jason is an Eagle Scout from Northwestern Indiana. He graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Non-profit management, then started as a District Executive with the Hoosier Trails Council in Bloomington, IN. Jason was then promoted to Senior District Executive then to District Director in his 5 year tenure in Bloomington serving two Districts. Jason and his wife, Allyson, will be relocating to Omaha at the end of the month and are excited to make Omaha their new home! Send him a introduction and welcome email to Jason Triplett
New for 2019 - Webelos Resident Camp
July 19 - 21

Webelos Resident Camp at Camp Cedars is for Scouts entering the fifth grade that fall or who will be eligible to transition to Scouts BSA in 2020. This 3-day, 2-night experience will introduce those Scouts and adults to the Scouts BSA program including hands-on activities for the youth and training for adults! Scouts are encouraged to attend with their entire den, but may also attend with their parent. 
2019 Omaha Area Merit Badge Clinics
Black Hawk/Iron Horse Districts Merit Badge Clinic to Continue in 2019! The events are on Saturday, form 9 am to noon. Clinics will be held March 2, May 4, July 13, September 7, and November 2. There is no cost, but pre-registration is required in order to make proper preparations and to provide for communication of important information.
