MESSAGE FROM THE ASSESSOR

Taxpayers Have An Extra Month To Pay 1st Installment Tax Bills

In Cook County, First installment property tax bills are normally mailed around February 1 and are due March 1. This year, however, the first installment bills will not be mailed until late February or early March and will have an April 3 due date. Note: The extension is the result of special circumstances surrounding last year’s second tax bills and pertain to this bill only.

Under state law, Cook County tax payments are supposed to be spread throughout the year, with first installment bills due March 1 and second installment bills due August 1. Computer compatibility problems between county tax appeal agencies resulted in the latest-ever second installment tax bills in 2022.
