Black History Month: Businessman returns to

farm his great-grandfather once tilled as a slave


After a 35-year career as a Fortune 500 business executive and economic developer, Jim Coleman has returned to his Kentucky roots. He is the fourth generation of his family to farm 13 acres of land in Fayette County that his great-grandfather once tilled as a slave before buying it in 1888. Now Coleman Crest Farm holds the distinction of being the first African American-owned organic farm in Kentucky certified by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
