Happy Black History Month β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ’š

β€Š

Black History Month is time set out from the rest of the year to celebrate the incredible impact of Black people - Black inventors, Black business-owners, Black politicians, Black activists, Black mathematicians, professors, writers, athletes... the list goes on and on!

How will our students leave their impact on this country? That is a story still being told. But for now, we have the privilege of showing our students at their best. Here, 7th Grade Teacher Mr. Moore (of Moore Visions Photography) had our scholars proudly choose a word to best describe who they are...and then posed them for a photo. πŸ“Έ β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ’š

"Our kids get to walk in their truth and that is what I feel like Black history is..it’s just like, we’ve walked in our truth up to this point & our kids are showing that.” β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ’š Coach Ms. Tina Hannah shared with FOX6 News Milwaukee.

Watch the beautiful piece that showcases how our MAS Cheer Team is connected to a rich history of African American stepping. And, as MAS Cheer Captain and sophomore Je'Nique Mitchell describes, how Black young people are stepping into their spot in history because "we are going to be the next history." ✊🏾

Recognizing Black Educators β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ’š

Who was your first Black teacher?

A question that many Black adults ask each other because their stories they recall, it matters. The stories that follow often are filled with themes of being seen, being challenged, supported and loved in a way that they haven't felt by a teacher before.

At MAS, we celebrate our Black teachers and staff all the days of the year but especially want to recognize them during black history month for their impact they are making here and now on the lives of our littlest K4 scholars to our almost grown high school seniors.

"Why are there so many forks?" asked one high school junior.

In February, Ersnt & Young College MAP high school juniors participants were treated to an etiquette lunch at Coast overlooking Lake Michigan. Scholars and EY mentors learned proper dining and hosting etiquette they can put to use when attending business meals in their future careers! Grateful to learn the "whys" in order to prepare
