On February 19, 1942 President Franklin Roosevelt authorized the incarceration or deportation of over 110,000 Japanese Americans during World War II.

Japanese American children's author and illustrator Gyo Fujikawa's picture book biography, It Began With a Page, touches on her family's experience with WWII internement camps and her fight in the 1960s to desegregate children's books.
