This month we pay special homage to the achievements and immeasurable role of so many creative, moving, and vibrant figures of the African American community. From museums to special events, there are a number of educational and enlightening ways to honor Black History, this month and beyond, in Massachusetts. Explore the
Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists in Roxbury for a breathtaking dive into contemporary, visual, and performing arts from Black artists around the globe. Embark on a self-guided walk that remembers the famed women's rights activist and abolitionist,
Sojourner Truth, in Florence. Or journey to
Nantucket or

"RAWR! A WCMA Bestiary" is now on view at the
Williams College Museum of Art. Wild and domestic beasts have served as deities and food sources; as objects of ornament or sacrifice; as companion or curiosity. Artworks from the museum's encyclopedic collection explore the representation of animals in art and artifacts across time and across the globe. Also on view is "The Seeds of Divinity," an exhibition of Pre-Columbian art. Through art, music, dance, and ritual offerings of food, drink, incense, and even human blood, the people of Mesoamerica materialized gods in their daily lives. This exhibition is designed to transport you to another time and culture, where bodies are transformed into actual divine beings, and humans have multiple souls.

The Linda Loring Nature Foundation (LLNF) and the Nantucket Atheneum invite you to share your story during the
2nd Annual Nantucket Nature Story Slam, being held the evening of February 13 at the Nantucket Atheneum Great Hall. This year's theme -
Nantucket Now and Then: Stories of a Changing Natural Environment - welcomes tales about how nature, the environment, and the state of science has changed over time on Nantucket. The slam is a spoken word competition where participants share short stories (5 minutes or less) that are judged on content, delivery, and connection to the theme. "Wampanoag World: Patuxet to Plymouth" will be the featured exhibit for 2018 at the
Pilgrim Hall Museum in Plymouth. Who were the original residents of Plymouth? This exhibit captures the vitality and persistence of the Wampanoag people of Patuxet through 10,000 years of lived experience to the founding of Plymouth Colony in 1620. Displays of Native artifacts illustrate craft, trading networks, family and social experience, and maritime and agricultural lifeways. A highlight is a two-month showing in February and March of "Our Story: 400 Years of Wampanoag History", a traveling exhibition based on Wampanoag perspectives, presented by Plymouth 400, Inc. and produced by the Indian Spiritual and Cultural Training Council and SmokeSygnals Marketing and Communications.
