The National Black Lives Matter at School coalition joins in the celebration of the Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20. Check out the resource package that engages in the principle of being TRANS AFFIRMING and celebrates William Dorsey Swann.
Born into slavery, William Dorsey Swann was the first known person to identify as a “Queen of Drag” and the first known American activist to lead a queer resistance group. Learn about Swann in this short video from PBS. Swann is also one of the activists featured in Teaching for Change's Resistance 101 lesson.
