The Black Teacher Collaborative
Celebrates Black Excellence in Education:
Mary McLeod Bethune
Today marks the birthday of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune. A matriarch of Black excellence in education, Dr. Bethune lived her life actively in pursuit of her greatest dream, “ the full equality for the Negro in our time.” Believing education was a critical tool in that pursuit, she founded the Daytona Literary and Industrial Training School for Negro Girls – which later became Bethune-Cookman College. Dr. Bethune built a legacy of service, leadership, advocacy, and courage always resolute in her proclamation below that serves as a foundational charge for the Black Teacher Collaborative (BTC):
Equally as important was Dr. Bethune’s clarity on the importance of a strong racial identity for Black children, which she defined as racial dignity of Black people. Amongst many of her profound words, BTC is focusing on ensuring Black teachers are leading the way to provide Black children with a strong sense of racial identity.
The Black Teacher Collaborative is resolute in its work to bring forth a bold vision for Black teacher innovation and excellence for Black children. Donate to BTC today at blackteachercollaborative.org/donate to help BTC build on Mary McLeod Bethune’s legacy by making a small donation of $25 in support of BTC’s trailblazing work to actualize a new model for Black teacher impact and efficacy.

Thank you in advance for partnering with us for this great work!
