BlackStar Orbital to build spacecraft manufacturing and test facility in Sierra Vista

Earlier this week, BlackStar Orbital announced it would be investing $7.1 million into a new engineering and manufacturing facility for its spacecraft at the Sierra Vista Municipal Airport. It's anticipated the facility will be operational by 2026 and create over 50 high-quality jobs.

"We are excited to welcome BlackStar Orbital to our community," said Mayor McCaa. "We greatly appreciate the efforts of the Arizona Commerce Authority and our own City of Sierra Vista economic development team in doing the work needed to land this project. Sierra Vista's tech-centric workforce and shovel-ready airport space make this an ideal location for BlackStar's missions."

The Sierra Vista facility is poised to be the cornerstone for the development and production of BlackStar's spacecraft, an innovative spaceplane-satellite hybrid affectionately called SpaceDrone. Learn more.

The Cove is set to reopen on Monday, Feb. 12

The Cove, Sierra Vista’s indoor aquatic center, is scheduled to reopen on Monday, Feb. 12, after being closed for maintenance this winter.

During the closure, crews removed and replaced every bottom surface throughout the pool area up to the tile line; retiled with larger, longer-lasting tiles; and established new regulatory diving markers. There were also upgrades to the waterslide stairs and pirate slide landing, and the installation of shower stalls to the men’s locker room.

Due to some additional maintenance issues, the therapeutic pool, diving well, and waterslides may be unavailable for a limited time after the main pool reopens on Feb. 12. Staff is working to restore these features as soon as possible.
