The winner of both the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize at this January's Sundance Film Festival, Ryan Coogler's debut feature, Fruitvale Station, brings to vivid life the last day in the life of Oscar Grant, the 22 year old man killed by police at a Bay Area Rapid Transit station shortly after midnight on New Year's Day 2009, giving us the human being behind the headlines and rendering his death even more tragic, if that's possible. Michael B. Jordan (The Wire, Friday Night Lights) gives an unforgettable, star-making performance as Grant, with solid support by Oscar winner Octavia Spencer (The Help) as Grant's mother and Melonie Diaz as his partner, Sophina.

In director Sofia Coppola's Bling Ring, society's obsession with fame and excess plays out in alarming ways. Based on true events, the film

follows the exploits of four Southern California teenagers who have been raised in the midst of vacuous celebrity culture. Led by Rebecca,

a dominating mean girl, the teens get the brilliant idea to break into the houses of their idols, not just to steal their expensive stuff, but to revel in the good life they will inevitably be part of one day

when they're famous.

footage and interviews, a disturbing portrait of Tilicum's life is drawn in vivid detail, revealing abuse, suffocating detention, and devastating familial separation, which has created a mentally unstable creature who is forced to perform for entertainment.
