Dear Blackstone Chamber Members,
I want to start out by thanking the City of Blackstone, our local businesses, volunteers, and participants for making this year’s Arts & Crafts Festival a wonderful experience for our community. Your support truly made the event a success.
Next, we are excited to host the 2024 Blackstone Chamber of Commerce Fall Golf Outing, scheduled for October 7.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are opening another round of the SOVA RISE Female Founders Fund as part of the RISE Regional Summit for Entrepreneurs, happening on Saturday, October 19, 2024 in Danville, VA.
The RISE Female Founders Fund for Woman-Owned Businesses provides micro-grant funding to female entrepreneurs. The Female Founders Fund was established in 2023 to provide additional support and encouragement to female entrepreneurs demonstrating perseverance in pursuing their vision in Southern Virginia.
Available Funding: One grant award of $1,000
Application Deadline: Friday, October 11, 2024

New technical guides published; Political campaigns and charities
New technical guides published
Exempt Organizations and Government Entities recently published three new Technical Guides (TG). These guides are comprehensive, issue-specific documents that update and combine Audit Technique Guides (ATG)) with other technical content. Once completed, the TGs replace corresponding ATGs.
The latest TGs address Section 509(a)(3) organizations. Organizations that qualify as public charities under Section 509(a)(3) are organized and operated exclusively to support one or more Section 509(a)(1) or (2) organizations.

The educator expense deduction can help offset out-of-pocket classroom costs
The taxpayer must be a kindergarten through grade 12 teacher, instructor, counselor, principal or aide. They must also work at least 900 hours a school year in a school that provides elementary or secondary education as determined under state law. Read more on the Educator Expense Deduction.
