Blair’s Track and Field Team ended the year strong with numerous medal winners on our Freshman-Sophomore team. We are Viking Proud of the dedication of all the team members throughout the season! 💚💛

On Sunday, May 15th, members from our Armenian Academy Dance Team participated through dance and poetry at Tekeyan Cultural Association’s New Talents Program. They are pictured with talented Artsakh singer and soldier, Arthur Khatchents.
On Monday, College Access Plan celebrated with our seniors in the library.
Mrs. Law and Miss McLaughlin attended the PUSD State of Schools Address and shared information about our MYP and DP programs. Blair’s JROTC presented the colors for the event. For more pictures, click here.
Mr. Escalante and Ms. Najera took a group of Blair's students in English Language Development classes to visit the Marine Mammal Care Center on Thursday May 12th. Students learned how the volunteers at MMCC rescue ill sea lions and seals, care for them and send them back to the ocean when they are healthy. They also learned that we all can help these marine creatures by picking up trash and recycling plastic containers so that our waste doesn't end up in the ocean. They also visited the Korean Friendship Bell Park. Blair JROTC Senior Cadets were given college scholarship donations by the Altadena Rotary Club totaling $4000.00. The graduation stoles and medallions were purchased with a generous grant from the Blair PTSA.
Last Wednesday our eighth graders participated in an Open Stage Field Trip to A Noise Within to see their production of Metamorphosis.
Also on Wednesday, our Class of 2022 were honored at the Senior Awards Celebration. Check next week's Eblast for a list of honorees!

Last week Ms. Volpi’s Drama class's performed their final production of Law and Order: Fairy Tale Unit
Miss McLaughlin was honored to be a guest of The Pasadena Festival of Women Authors on Saturday. She invited juniors Ellie Sahand and Ananya Bhargava to join her.

Volunteer Opportunities
Students - when you volunteer, submit your hours via the student portal. Also be sure to complete this form and return it to the guidance office to get school credit for your work!

PEF Volunteers Needed - Visit the PEF Website to find Volunteer opportunities within PUSD. Currently they are looking for volunteers to help at Vaccination Clinics, organizing the PUSD Warehouse, helping with Deliveries, and helping distribute Produce and Food Boxes.  

PEF Summer Enrichment Program - Volunteer Youth Leaders Needed!
Students are invited to apply to be a summer youth leader at PEF's Summer Enrichment Program. Click here to apply. 
The Pasadena Humane Society has a variety of volunteer opportunities for students under age 16 listed on their website.  Current opportunities include with the Cat Adoptions Team, the Poster Pawtrol, and as a Shelter Greeter. There are more volunteer opportunities available here for students ages 15 and older.

Community Service Hours Update
Community service or work-based learning hours need be submitted to the School Counselor using the community service log that is in the counseling office or via this link.  Due to the pandemic, the senior class and the 8th grade class only need to complete ten hours. The deadline for submission is May 15th. Turn them in early so you are not stressed out that week! Students in grades 9-11 need to complete 40 hours throughout high school and students in grades 6-7 need to complete 20 hours.  
Before our student athletes are allowed to compete, they must have clearance forms submitted, including medical history and a physical evaluation. All forms can be found and downloaded at www.AthleticClearance.com.
As we move through the Spring Semester, are your students experiencing anxiety or stress? Life can feel overwhelming, anxiety invoking, and stressful. Sometimes we all need a healthy escape. Everyone is welcome to explore the resources available in Blair's Virtual Calming Space. The Virtual Calming Space is a place for students to find tools and strategies for managing emotions and feelings.

LEARNs

TRIO helps students get academic, career, and financial mentoring and support in order to help them graduate from high school and continue on to complete your postsecondary educational goals.  The application is open to students between grades 8-12.  Click here for more information and to apply.  
Rising Seniors - Williams Fly-In Program
The 2022 Windows on Williams (WOW) application is now available. This program provides more than 200 high-achieving seniors an all-expenses-paid opportunity to visit campus, stay in dorms with current students, attend classes, and learn about admissions and financial aid. UCLA EAOP Summer Programs

EAOP’s AP Readiness residential program at UCLA is a week-long skill building preparatory course. It is the perfect opportunity for students to develop key skills necessary for the rigors of Advanced Placement coursework. Current 10th & 11th graders can apply here.

EAOP's Writing Foundations Boot Camp is an in-person weekend residential program, 3-days/2-nights on the UCLA campus. The Writing Foundations Boot Camp is designed for students who would like to get a head start on their upcoming year. Current 9th and 10th grade students can apply here.
