Dear Neighbors,

I hope this finds you well. I want to thank you for your continued support and advocacy for the safety of the Blake Lane corridor. I remain committed in working with local and state partners to ensure that we make the necessary safety improvements in the corridor. On August 2nd, the Board approved the installation of “Watch for Children” Signs and “$200 Additional Fine for Speeding” Signs as part of the Residential Traffic Administration Program on Blake Lane. In the July 19th Board Meeting, I presented a Board Matter with Chairman McKay and Supervisor Alcorn, which directed staff to provide information and recommendations on purchasing additional speed devices so that we have more capacity countywide to use these effective deterrents to speed. You may read the Board Matter here. The compiled questions and comments from the previous community meeting can be found on my website. (Please note that some of the questions have not been addressed yet.)

As you may know, I am convening a Blake Lane Safety Community Advisory Group and while many of you have already reached out expressing interest, there are still communities along the corridor with no representation. If you live in any of the following communities and are interested in serving on the Advisory Group, please email Providence@fairfaxcounty.gov expressing your interest with your name and HOA/community you would represent. If you have already expressed interest, please also email the office to confirm that you remain available and interested to serve on the group. My office will send a follow up email to the group on Friday, August 19th with potential times for an initial meeting.

In addition to this community group, I am convening a Blake Lane Safety Staff Advisory Group, whose purpose will be tracking short-, mid-, and long-term improvements on Blake Lane as well as providing updates and assisting in answering questions posed by community members.

I am hopeful that this multifaceted community-driven approach to Blake Lane pedestrian and bicyclist safety will allow us to facilitate a safe and secure walkable and bikeable community for us all.

Sincerely,
Supervisor Dalia Palchik
