Client resources & news
October 27, 2020

Thank you to everyone who attended and made our inaugural Fall Client Event a success. I'd like to share some of the key takeaways from the presentation with you today. Please look below for a link to request a recording of the presentation, if you missed it.

First, don’t panic or react to short-term events. On the election and the impact to the markets, there is not a large difference long term whether we end up with a Republican or Democratic president in the White House. Markets do well under both scenarios. But be prepared for short-term volatility.

Regarding taxes, Roth Conversions or accelerating income while tax rates are low is
a good idea. Regardless of who is elected, taxes will eventually go up. And remember,
if the stock market goes down, it can provide an opportunity. If you are doing
Roth Conversions, you can convert more shares of an IRA to a Roth IRA. It can also
be a great time to rebalance strategies and buy low.

For clients nearing retirement, we have been systematically adding to your short
term bucket (Defensive Strategy) so that you will have a smooth landing when you need to start taking withdrawals. That way, you can retire when you want to, even if
the stock market or the election isn’t cooperating.

For clients taking withdrawals, there are enough reserves available in your short
term bucket to meet all of your needs for the next 18-24 months or more, so you can
outlast the short term events. If we do get volatility in the markets, we won’t have to
sell any stocks that went down and will be able to take part in the eventual recovery.
You don’t have to trust the politicians, trust the process. It works!

And whether you are taking withdrawals, nearing retirement, or if you are unsure of
how your portfolio is situated or what strategies apply to you, please reach out to us
and we would be happy to talk with you.

Warm regards,
