Blessed When We are a Blessing

A prayer of St. Teresa of Avila

Christ has no body but yours,

No hands, no feet on earth but yours,

Yours are the eyes with which he looks

Compassion on this world,

Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,

Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.

Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,

Yours are the eyes, you are his body.

Christ has no body now but yours,

No hands, no feet on earth but yours,

Yours are the eyes with which he looks

compassion on this world.

Christ has no body now on earth but yours.

We are indeed blessed by God! His love, His grace, and the gifts we receive from him are a bundle of blessings. Even the worst criminal, or a person like Job with a multitude of physical problems can find blessings in their life if they know God. Even those who don’t acknowledge God can find some blessings.

God’s love and blessings are meant to be shared. God calls us to be his hands and feet on earth. But here is the secret you will discover when you reach out in help and hope: you will be blessed with greater measures as you blessed others. Not in thanks or stature, but in the feeling that you are in partnership with God.

Have you experienced that good feeling when you help others, not for show or profit but to please God? That feeling of love and warmth towards those you help. That is a blessing that shines on through you.

And so, you receive the blessings of being a blessing to others. Try it for yourself and discover your blessings.
