Eternal Rest Grant Unto Them, Oh Lord
This past Lent, the Serra world lost two of our mission's most ardent members: Past Serra USA Council Thomas Q. Benson, of the Serra Club of Southeast Denver passed away on March 21; Serra International Trustee Blessida Diwa, of the Serra Club of Tuguegarao, Philippines, passed away on March 23.
Blessida Diwa, who was a Serran for 20 years, was a force for Serra, healthcare, and the Girl Scouts in her country and was a regular attendee of Serra International conventions, where she was well known for giving dozens of handmade gifts from the Philippines to friends and acquaintances.
Tom Benson was an active leader at every level of Serra in his 38 years as a member. Notably, he was instrumental in the formation of Serra's Council for the United States, and was its president in its early years. Tom was an avid runner, a passionate speaker, a lover of potato chips and the Denver Broncos, and a cheerful and frequent caller to the USA Council staff.
Serrans the world over will mourn and miss these two great Serra leaders, but we remain grateful for their service and dedication to our vocations mission and to our Church.
Please keep Tom Benson and Blessida Diwa and their families in your prayers.
