אין די לעצטע יאָרן האָט זי זיך אָפּגעגעבן מיטן ווײַטער פֿירן איר טאַטנס ווערק און פֿאַרשפּרייטן די ייִדישע שפּראַך, קולטור און ליטעראַטור. הײַנט איז זי אַ קאָאָרדינאַטאָרשע אין „בית־שלום־עליכם“ אין תּל־אָבֿיבֿ. זי איז דער פֿאַרטרעטער פֿונעם ייִדישן „פֿאָרווערטס“ אין ישׂראל, און אינטערװיויִרערשע און איבערזעצערין בײַם „יד־ושם“, „CSU־חורבן־פֿונדאַציע“ (noitadnuoF haohS CSU), און בײַם „ייִדיש־שפּיל“ טעאַטער. זי טרעט אויף מיט איר אַליין געשריבענער סאָלאָ־פֿאָרשטעלונג „מײַן טאַטנס טאָכטער“ אויף ייִדיש, ענגליש און העברעיִש. דאָרט, מיט אַרײַנגעפֿלאָכטענע ייִדישע לידער, ברענגט זי איר קול ווי אַ קינד פֿונעם צווייטן דור לעבן־געבליבענע ייִדן.

Join us for a Zoom conversation with the researcher, journalist and Yiddish activist

We will talk about Yiddish in Israel, especially about her monthly publication "Vos? Ven? Vu?" (What? When? Where?), a bulletin that lets you know about all the events in the upcoming month in Israel regarding Yiddish. We will also talk about her father, the writer Rachmil Bryks, in the light of her research and works which she wrote about him. We will also talk about her various roles in Yiddish organizations and more.
(The conversation will be in Yiddish.)

Bella Bryks-Klein was born in Stockholm, a daughter of the talented Yiddish Holocaust writer Rachmil Bryks. The YIVO and HIAS brought their family to the U.S., where she spent her childhood in Manhattan. She later moved to Israel and graduated with a Master's from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem with a comprehensive thesis about her father's life and manuscripts buried in, and recovered from, the Lodz Ghetto.
In recent years she has dedicated herself to continuing her father's work and disseminating the Yiddish language, culture and literature. Today she is a Coordinator at “Beth Shalom Aleichem” in Tel Aviv, representative of the Yiddish “Forward” in Israel, and interviewer and translator for “Yad Vashem”, Steven Spielberg's “USC Shoah Foundation” in Israel, and “Yiddishpiel” theater.
She is currently performing her one-woman show "Mayn Tatns Tokhter" (My Father's Daughter) - in Yiddish, English and Hebrew. Interspersed with Yiddish songs, it is a personal view of growing up as a second-generation survivor.

Pleytem tsuzamen / Refugees Together
which will be held on March 26, 2023
New York-born composer Josh Waletzky and playwright Jeyn Levison’s new Yiddish theatrical concert “Pleytem tsuzamen / פּליטים צוזאַמען / Refugees Together” is a call for solidarity with those who are most threatened. Confronting our current reality, the songs present a dynamic fusion of traditional forms with the social, political, and personal challenges posed by the world today – and they embody the power of music to foster the courage we need to “link arms and take to the streets together against bloodshed and hatred.”
These songs are stunning and political – addressing immigration and refugeeism, climate collapse, racism, foster care, mass shootings, antisemitism, and “Make Our Race Great Again” ideologies.
Waletzky wrote these songs for this chosen group of master Yiddish singers and instrumentalists – the foremost contemporary performers on the global Yiddish scene, including:
Daniel Kahn (voice, accordion, guitar), Sveta Kundish (voice), Sasha Lurje (voice), Polina Shepherd (voice, piano), Josh Waletzky (voice), Merlin Shepherd (clarinet), Ilya Shneyveys (accordion, piano), Jake Shulman-Ment (violin), Beth Silver (cello), and Deborah Strauss (violin).
To date, institutional support for Pleytem tsuzamen has come from The Center for Traditional Music and Dance, The Kronhill Pletka Foundation, The League for Yiddish, Western States Center, The Yiddish Book Center, The YIVO Institute, and Yiddish New York.
