We all heard the negative news stories - early on during this pandemic - arising out of an isolated incident at a Washington Skilled Nursing Facility. That is not indicative of what we've seen at Bloom Senior Living within our company specifically or our seniors housing industry generally over the past nine months. To the contrary, we see providers, like Bloom, acting heroicly and selflessly caring for residents like family. We see providers, like Bloom, doing the right thing and keeping residents safe and happy. We see providers, like Bloom, controlling this virus and keeping infection rates low. And we see providers, like Bloom, now turning the corner and putting COVID-19 behind us as we stand first in line to receive the vaccine. We received a letter today from a family member representative of our response to this pandemic:
"I want to thank Lauren Thomas, the Executive Director, and all the staff at Bloom at Bluffton for creating a family community where my 95-year old mom feels right at home. After the first week my mom moved into the assisted living section of Bloom at Bluffton, she felt right at home and told me then and tells me now how happy she is that she is there. She told me that she made friends there both residents and staff and that there are so many activities to do. She calls Bloom her home. I don’t live close by so I only get to visit 4 or so times a year and with the current covid-19 virus pandemic, I have not seen my mom for almost a year. I especially appreciate that the lines of communication between the staff and myself are always open. They go the extra mile to find my mom when I call and she is not in her apartment. Furthermore, the staff answers all my questions and carries out any special requests I may have. I have been fortunate to get to know many staff members who I feel I can talk freely to. It is a relief to have this kind of relationship when I do not live in the area.
I am especially grateful for the protocols the owners and Lauren Thomas have put in place to keep the residents safe during this horrible pandemic. We all know how living situations like nursing homes and assisted living care facilities can be dangerous places to live during the covid-19 era. Bloom at Bluffton has done a wonderful job keeping the residents safe, which has been such a relief for me and my family. The staff called family members when they had to follow the isolation protocol and when any changes occurred in day-to-day life. I speak to my mom almost every day. When we speak about the pandemic and I share with her how my family and I keep safe, she always says I am so glad that I am here. I respond I am so glad too.
Thank you Bloom at Bluffton and I hope to see my mom and all of you as soon as it is possible."
