Bloom Senior Living Health Alert: Coronavirus Update #23

Dear Bloom Residents, Families & Friends:

The COVID-19 situation continues to be fluid. We're providing a brief update to our August 4, 2020 report.

Testing

With nine Bloom Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care communities in five states -- Florida, Indiana, Ohio, South Carolina and Louisiana -- and almost 400 associates serving over 750 residents, our infection rate remains low. Our chart has been updated below. As you can see, we currently have zero residents that are COVID-19 positive. We also have no residents exhibiting any symptoms. We currently have four associates that are COVID-19 positive (and isolating at home). They're all asymptomatic.

As we've done since early March, we're continuing to be pro-active / aggressive with testing. We're in the process of testing anyone experiencing symptoms, been in contact with anyone positive and/or testing entire communities out of an abundance of caution. In that vein, we just tested all residents and associates at Bloom at Hilton Head in South Carolina. All residents are negative. All associates, except the one identified in the chart below, are negative. We're in the process of testing all residents and associates at Bloom at Eagle Creek in Indiana and Bloom at Bossier in Louisiana. Per State mandate, we're continuing to test all associates at Bloom at St. Petersburg in Florida every two weeks. During our last round of testing, all results came back negative. Given the high infection rate in Florida generally and at competing communities in the St. Petersburg area specifically, we're incredibly proud of our local teams (and COVID-19 management) for keeping Bloom at St. Petersburg COVID-free. In addition to testing these communities, we're simultaneously implementing isolation, contact tracing and mitigation protocols consistent with our pandemic response plan. We'll keep you apprised of the aforementioned results.

As you’ve heard us say during past updates, reputations are made during crisis and when history reflects back upon this time, we believe our sector -- who has been given the tremendous privilege of protecting and caring for America’s seniors -- will be hailed as heroes. Now that we’re almost six months into this pandemic and COVID-19 has been at the forefront of our efforts since late February, we still feel the same way. Our Bloom front-line associates are truly superheroes. Our industry, and Bloom in particular, has weathered the initial onslaught of the pandemic, which introduced significant challenges including difficulties sourcing personal protective equipment and testing, as well as, addressed staffing and regulatory issues, not to mention the lack of government support and overwhelming negative (and bias) media coverage. While we’re not back to normal just yet and recognize challenges persist, we’ve adapted and are keeping our residents safe, our teams engaged and our Bloom culture thriving. We continue to remain optimistic that Bloom will come out of this temporary disruption with positive outcomes. We’re hearing from adult children (calling Bloom for support) about their parents trying to stay in their own homes. We’re hearing they're isolated; they're lonely; they're eating poorly; and they're not getting the care they need. These children have shared with us that they could be living at Bloom and experiencing a more enjoyable, fuller, better and safer life. We continue to agree that our residents are best served in our safe, controlled environment that can provide, through trained associates, our services and access to medical care, meals and socialization. We’re committed to continuing to operate with the same urgency, discipline and empathy that we’ve exhibited over the last six months in order to keep our residents safe AND blooming. We're also committed to continuing to communicate with you openly and consistently.
