2026

May is Stroke Awareness Month! Stroke survivors in The League's SCALE Aphasia Program "Speak Out" group have made it their mission to educate students, the medical community, and the general public on stroke responsiveness by bringing awareness to the signs and symptoms that can be life-saving in emergency situations. Of key importance in these trainings are the dignity in care and patience in communication for someone living with aphasia as a result of a stroke. (Video is 24 minutes.)

A NOTE FROM DAVID'S DESK

Together, we are able to show up for our community.

Dear Friend of The League,

Time is flying and we are already more than half way through the month of May! So many wonderful things have been infusing our communities with positivity and growth. The League's Executive Leadership Team continues to raise the bar of excellence for our organization.

Before we can celebrate our 100 years of services to the disability community, we are excited to celebrate League Chief Operating Officer Renée Dash, Esq., RN for being honored as one of The Daily Record's Top 100 Women of 2026! She joins the ranks of hundreds of phenomenal ladies (my mother included) who have made Maryland a better place through their personal and professional accomplishments.

Lastly, I want to thank and commend the staff members, participants, families, volunteers, and superheroes who joined us for The League's Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 2nd! We packed the campus with people of all ages and abilities to enjoy activities, food, concessions, and the joy of being together. If you would like to make a donation in honor of our 99th birthday on April 30th, please click here. Thank you for following along with us, and be well!

Over the course of five sessions, volunteers will create their own capstone project and build leadership and teamwork skills while gaining real-world experience in a non-profit organization that improves the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
