TTC Bloor Yonge updates

Project/construction updates

Bloor-Yonge Capacity Improvements project update

The Bloor-Yonge Capacity Improvements (BYCI) project is nearing the end of the Validation Period, which is part of the Development Phase. Once the Validation Period is complete and the Validation Period Report is finalized, the project will move into the Detailed Design Period.

During the Detailed Design phase, the Bloor–Yonge Station project will progress from 30 per cent to 70 per cent design completion. Upon reaching 70 per cent, the project will transition into the Implementation Phase.

The project team also continues to establish long-term Permission-to-Enter (PTE) agreements with buildings in the project’s zone of influence (ZOI). PTE agreements are necessary for inspections, scans, photographs, and monitoring equipment installations throughout the project’s duration, and are required before major construction begins.

Ongoing outreach keeps community informed

Communication with customers and neighbours is ongoing. TTC’s Community and Stakeholder Relations department continues to issue construction notices for upcoming work and maintain government funding and project signage inside Bloor-Yonge Station and around the project site.

Chiller installation on track for June completion

Brookfield Properties continues to work on its chiller relocation at 2 Bloor Street East. The existing chiller room will eventually become part of the expanded footprint of Bloor-Yonge Station. Brookfield Properties has advised that the chiller project remains on schedule, with substantial completion targeted for the end of June 2026.

Nightly utility investigations underway at Yonge and Bloor

TTC is also conducting utility investigation work on Yonge Street and Bloor Street East every night from Monday to Friday. This work involves a hydrovac mounted on a truck, which is used to safely siphon material from excavated boreholes without damaging the utility infrastructure beneath the surface. The work involves temporary nightly diversions of bike and vehicle lanes. Signage is installed and Paid-Duty Officers are present to assist cyclists and motorists through the work sites. This work began on May 27 and is estimated to take approximately five weeks to complete.

Did you know?

Bloor-Yonge Station is the only TTC station where the two lines use different platform names. Line 1 platforms say “Bloor,” and Line 2 platforms say “Yonge.” Maps and announcements now usually call it “Bloor–Yonge”, but the split naming still exists on platforms.
