Dear Alumni,
April is a pink and white and yellow month in New York--outside my apartment windows on 90th Street a magnolia, crabapple and a cherry compete for my attention. On every side street it seems blooms announce that this is the season of commencements and reunions, plays and presentations, and going out to Randall’s Island and the Park after the long winter of masks and careful living. Now we’re in the season of basketball play-off banter—the Brooklyn Nets and my Boston Celtics–and all that comes with the beginning of the baseball season and the ever-hopeful Mets and the Yankees.
At the School now, in this month, it looks to me to be a place you would recognize—nearly normal. We’re staging an adaptation of the play 12 Angry Men in our theater with girls from Nightingale and graduation is scheduled to return to the gymnasium in person. Boys in the choruses and orchestras are getting ready for spring performances and recitals and there is enormous excitement about this year’s chorus and orchestra trip to an evening performance of Hamilton. Wow! And for you, too, alumni, a spring with familiar occasions: mark Friday, June 3 on your calendars for the Alumni Reunion at 583 Park–a big do for Mr. Trower who, as you know, is stepping down after 32 years at the helm.
I’m going to buy myself a pink tie for these events, a pink necktie at a real store and not online and not on sale! See you then.
All best,
D. Kersey

Last month, third-grade boys read biographies about significant American activists!
The boys took notes, synthesized the information with a quick outline, and structured their paragraphs "like a hamburger." The boys were impressed with each other’s writing and illustrations!

You're Invited!
Free Screenings in NY and MA of a new film by Artemis Joukowsky '77.
Join in person tonight at the Cornell Club in NYC, or watch the screening and Q&A on any date listed on zoom at:
When asked by Past Assistant Head of School John Pariseau h'98 to interview a family member, Artemis uncovered the story of his grandparents, and this story eventually led to him working with documentarian Ken Burns on the film Defying the Nazis: The Sharp’s War.
This film “is an account of a daring rescue mission that occurred on the precipice of World War II. It tells the story of Waitstill & Martha Sharp, a Unitarian minister, and his wife from Wellesley, MA, who left their children behind in the care of their parish and boldly committed to multiple life-threatening missions in Europe. Over two dangerous years, they helped to save hundreds of imperiled political dissidents and Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi occupation across Europe.”
