Dear Alumni,
It is with great pride and joy that I begin my new role as the Director of Admissions, Enrollment and Financial Aid at Allen-Stevenson. As the sister of an Allen-Stevenson alumnus and a former Nightingale-Bamford student, I have always felt a deep connection to this space, school and community; it has been an integral part of my family. All that I have learned these past seven years at Allen-Stevenson, as both a classroom teacher and an Admissions professional, inspire me and excite me about what lies ahead.
I am thrilled to be able to share the many talents of our student body with the world at large. Allen-Stevenson’s distinctive approach to learning, making connections and building upon concepts as applicable to new and complex ideas, enables our teachers to teach content for mastery and enables our students to think critically, solve problems, work collaboratively and communicate effectively. These core competencies are what make our program unmatched, which should make you proud of your alma mater.
Furthermore, as a firm believer in the value of boys’ education and more importantly, that there are “many ways to be a boy”, I am eager to extend Allen-Stevenson’s reach and share the stories of our students, who are compelling illustrations of our dynamic, rich and engaging educational program. Our kindergarten boys evolve from efficient mathematicians into confident fourth-grade writers, using the drafting process to make strides in their writing skills. Our sixth-grade boys learn critical skills of collaboration, partaking in a musical with Nightingale students. I am confident that by Eighth Grade, boys look back and are equally as proud of their time on the wrestling team as they are singing in Gilbert & Sullivan. It is my hope that each Allen-Stevenson boy takes moments like these with him upon graduation, as I imagine many of you have in your time at A-S.
I am also excited that our program will be further enhanced by the culmination of our multi-year renovation project. Our new spaces, including but not limited to the teaching Greenhouse, Middle School regulation-size Gymnasium, Performing Arts Space and Science and Engineering Labs, will allow us to build on our 139-year foundation in providing the highest quality education to each student. Although the ways in which we may teach and the physical space in which you learned when you attended may be different, the traditions and essence of Allen-Stevenson will always remain the same- an atmosphere of young scholars and gentlemen stretching their talents in the pursuit of excellence.
Finally, as the Director of Admissions, I would like to thank all of you, the extraordinary alumni of Allen-Stevenson, for creating such a legacy. I hope that you will think back fondly on your own experience at Allen-Stevenson, and that those of you with sons will share it and engage in learning about Allen-Stevenson today, for him. I look forward to learning more about each of you and your hopes for Allen-Stevenson’s future. Together, we can build on that strong foundation and advance Allen-Stevenson’s mission. I am eager to connect with many of you in the coming months as I look to advance our mission “strongly and rightly”.
So once again, let me share my excitement for the journey ahead, one that is full of potential, of endless possibilities, and of great promise.
