Kevin’s Place Redevelopment Update

Anticipated for completion by the end of October 2026! 

The redevelopment of Blue Door’s emergency housing program, Kevin’s Place in Newmarket, is progressing with strong community support and a clear sense of purpose. With completion anticipated by the end of October 2026, this project will transform a 100-year-old home on an underutilized property into a modern community of 14 three-storey stacked townhomes, providing dignified, accessible, and affordable housing for individuals experiencing homelessness.

With guidance from EllisDon Community Builders and Buttcon, construction is well underway. The foundation has been completed, concrete has been poured, metal framing is in place, and wood framing continues to take shape. This redevelopment represents a thoughtful and compassionate use of land, helping to expand housing options at a time when traditional market solutions are not meeting the growing need.

This transformative redevelopment of Kevin’s Place was made possible through the generous support of Blue Door’s key funders and community partners. Blue Door extends its deepest gratitude to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation through the 2024 Seed Funding, Hockey Helps the Homeless, J.P. Bickell Foundation, The Home Depot Canada Foundation, Magna International, Newmarket Rotary Club, Ontario Trillium Foundation, The Regional Municipality of York, United Way Greater Toronto, and Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy. Their commitment and leadership are helping create safe, supportive spaces where youth, adults, seniors, and families can rebuild their lives and thrive. 

Blue Door is committed to building communities where everyone has a safe place to call home. Through projects like the redevelopment of Kevin’s Place, Blue Door is moving beyond temporary solutions and investing in permanent, affordable housing that creates real opportunities for stability and independence.

The Hockey Helps the Homeless Durham Tournament is Back!

The Hockey Helps the Homeless Durham Region tournament is back, and Blue Door is proud to once again be a beneficiary of this incredible event. Join us on May 8 at the Campus Ice Centre in Oshawa for a day of hockey, community, and impact as we raise life-changing funds to help individuals experiencing homelessness.

We’re looking to rally even more support this year and are aiming to add three more teams to the lineup! Whether you’re a seasoned player or just in it for the experience, this is your chance to hit the ice and be part of an incredible event that supports your community.
