No School September 3-6
This is a reminder there will be no school for students on Friday, September 3, for a staff professional development day and no school for students and staff on Monday, September 6, for Labor Day.
Students Report for Start of 2021-22 School Year

Kicking off the 2021-22 school year, students reported to their respective buildings for the opening day on Monday, Aug. 23.

The highlight was the new South Point Elementary opening their doors for the first day of the school year.
South Point Elementary Ribbon Cutting, Community Open House
A large crowd was on hand to celebrate the opening of the new South Point Elementary during the ribbon cutting ceremony and community open house on Tuesday, August 17.

The new South Point Elementary is located just off Highway 100 at St. Johns Road. The address is 4328 St. Johns Road, Washington, MO 63090.
Melissa Ziegler Named Finalist for Missouri Teacher of the Year
Melissa Ziegler, Medical Interventions and Biomedical Innovations instructor in the Biomedical Science program at Four Rivers Career Center, has been named a Finalist for the 2022 Missouri Teacher of the Year.

Ziegler was eligible for the award after being named the Missouri Regional Teacher of the Year for the South Central Region, and later a semifinalist for the state teacher of the year.
Horizons Academy Developed as Pathway to Employment Program
The School District of Washington has introduced the Horizons Academy beginning this summer and into the 2021-22 school year.

Horizons Academy is a Pathway to Employment Program located at Four Rivers Career Center. This foundational class is offered to exceptional students with a variety of educational barriers in order to focus on an integrated career and technical education curriculum.
Washington High School Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees Recognized
The Washington High School Athletic Department and the Washington High School Athletic Association are proud to announce the selections for the inaugural class of the Washington High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Inductees were recognized during halftime of Washington’s varsity football game on Friday, August 27.
WINGS Hall of Honor Banquet Scheduled for September 25
The School District of Washington’s WINGS Educational Foundation has announced its 12th class to be inducted into the Hall of Honor.

The Hall of Honor was initiated in 2009 to recognize alumni, former educators and community contributors who have shown exceptional personal, community or professional achievement.
New Teacher Orientation For 2021-22 School Year
New Teacher Orientation for the 2021-22 school year in the School District of Washington took place Monday, August 9, to Wednesday, August 11, at the Technology and Learning Center. The group of teachers had a full agenda for the three-day event.
SDOW Executive Leadership Team Hosts Meet and Greet Event
The School District of Washington hosted a Meet and Greet event for the new executive leadership team on Wednesday, July 28, at the Board of Education Office.
