IMPRESSIVE TECH INTEGRATION
(awesomeness from throughout the district)
In her music classes at South Point and Augusta, Karen Stafford is giving students the opportunity to assess themselves (and their peers!) by working through an online portfolio program called Seesaw. Later in the year, Karen plans to have the kids use Audacity, an audio creation and editing program, to create electronic compositions. These are great, engaging ideas that really provide students access to greater ownership of their learning! Great job, Karen!

If you or a colleague is doing a great thing with technology and would like to feature that in a future edition of Blue Jay Bytes, just drop a quick submission HERE . Thanks!
Tech Tipping Point

Common Sense Education is a leading nonprofit organization that focuses on 21st Century education. The organization exhaustively researches and presents best practices and strategies geared toward success for students, parents, and educators.

In 2012, Common Sense Education published a landmark report on teenage social media usage. However, in an effort to reflect the rapid change in this realm, the organization has just released the findings of a new 2018 study of this dynamic, and the results are very interesting!

As educators, we endeavor to be aware of the happenings in our students' lives. However, our perceptions of their social media usage are not always accurate. The following link is to an infographic that summarizes the findings of this brand new research. Whether you teach teenagers or are a parent to one, this information will be valuable to you. It definitely would make a great discussion starter for your middle and high school classes!

The Screen Time Debate

The video below appeared as a segment on Good Morning America over the summer. Follow this family's "experiment" when their kids transitioned from controlled screen time to unlimited access!
