Blue Jay Pointers

Starting on April 13 we move to 8:30 p.m. Hooray for longer days!

Love spending time at Blue Jay or Green Hills? Help shape what our park — and others managed by Wake County — look like in the future!

Over the past year, thousands of residents shared ideas for improving our parks, greenways and recreational programs. Now the Draft Master Plan is ready for you to review. Share your thoughts by April 9 and help us create even better outdoor spaces for everyone.

View the plan and the survey at www.wake.gov/parks/masterplan.

In 2026, Wake County is proud to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its Parks, Recreation and Open Space system! Throughout the year, we’ll be honoring this milestone with special programs, events, contests and community collaborations that highlight the history and impact of our parks and preserves.

From art in the parks to interactive challenges and featured park spotlights, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Check out all the exciting updates here!

The days are staying warmer and everyone is looking for fun outdoors but please keep in mind our park rules such as:

No swimming

No alcohol

All pets must be on a 6ft leash at all times.

No amplified music

Speed limit of 20mph

No overnight camping

We do highly recommend if you're looking for camping and swimming opportunities to check out Falls Lake State Recreation Area which has a variety of camp sites and swimming beaches.

FWS: Bug Hunt

At Green Hills County Park

Friday, May 1, 10-11 a.m.

Search for insects and other things that crawl, fly, and skitter with Green Hills staff. Learn about what lives in the park and use some of our bug hunting equipment. A fun activity on a traditional calendar Teacher Workday!

This program is all outdoors with some uneven surfaces.

Family Wildlife Series (FWS) programs are usually open to all ages, although information and activities are most appropriate for ages 5 years and up.

Serious Skills for Adults: Spring Birding

At Green Hills County Park

Saturday, April 11, 8:30 -10 a.m.

As a former landfill, Green Hills County Park is a unique spot to observe birds. Search the grassy hill for Eastern Meadowlarks and Killdeer while you observe Tree Swallows and Red-tailed Hawks soaring overhead. Borrow or bring your own binoculars to scope out nature from a distance. All experience levels welcome!

For ages 16yrs. & up.

This FREE workshop will count for Criteria II or III or Continuing Education credit for the NCEE Certification program.

This program will involve hiking about 1.5 miles total up and downhill on gravel terrain. There will also be extended periods of standing.

In 2018, voters passed a $120 million Parks, Greenways Recreation and Open Space bond. Renovations and improvements slated for Blue Jay Point focus on modernizing key amenities across the site to significantly enhance accessibility, functionality and the overall visitor experience.
