WOMEN'S RIGHTS RALLY

Democrats from throughout the 9th district held a rally to show our support for women's rights on Sunday, May 15, in front of the Sidney O. Smith Jr.Federal Building in downtown Gainesville. At the height of the rally, about 50 women, men and children (and some good dogs) gathered to express our outrage at a likely Supreme Court decision that will set medical care for women back 50 years.

We also had a chance to hear Democratic candidates speak, with passion, about the importance of electing Democrats to protect the rights of EVERYONE, including the right to vote. This year’s election is especially important as the races are mostly at the state and local level, where we need to have representatives who will stand up for us.

9th District chair and candidate for Georgia HD08 June Crise spoke about the lop-sided representation in the state legislature: Of all the state house and senate seats for counties in the 9th district, NOT ONE is held by a woman. It’s time to change that.

Thanks to Laura Colaninno for organizing the rally, June Crise (9th district chair) for helping get the word out, and our candidates—Mike Ford, Devin Pandy, Kim Floria, Isabel Martinez Flynn, and Laura—for speaking. Together we can make a difference!

The Times coverage of this event is linked below..
Democratic candidates, activists rally for abortion...

"When I was 16, you could not get an abortion," Colaninno said. "But if you were wealthy, you went to Fort Lauderdale and took a 'cruise.' ... But the poor people were using coat hangers and dying, and that's why we can't go back."

If you haven’t voted, do it Tuesday!

The good news is, Democrats have a lot of good candidates to choose from for many statewide positions. The bad news is, Tuesday is the one and only last chance to vote in the primary. And if you don’t vote in the primary, you won’t be able to vote in the runoff on June 21, for any race where a candidate did not receive more than 50% of the vote.

When you’re voting, be sure to VOTE ALL THE WAY DOWN THE BALLOT. Not only do we owe our local Democratic candidates our support, we also have the chance to influence the direction of the state party by answering the simple yes/no questions on the ballot.

Reminder: To vote on Tuesday, you MUST go to your assigned polling place, which you can find through My Voter Page: https://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/

If you haven’t returned your absentee ballot yet, you must deliver it to the Hall County Elections Office by Tuesday at 7 PM, when the polls close. The drop box for absentee ballots is located INSIDE the County Administration Building on Browns Bridge Road.

Spotlight on Sue Harmon, dedicated Hall County Democrat
Former Hall County Democratic Committee member and retiring Georgia ForestWatch board member Sue Harmon was featured in the organization’s spring newsletter. Harmon, a past president of Georgia ForestWatch, has devoted 17 years advocating good management practices and policy.

Although Sue plans to spend more time with her family, including her three grandchildren, she is not going away from her advocacy for the forests she knows well from her many hikes. She will be joining the Georgia ForestWatchAdvisor group.

Sue has continued to be a major donor to Hall County Democrats, the Committee and candidates. She also has spent many hours on the trail in the local GOTV efforts. She was a community activist and volunteer long before she retired from her public school teaching career.

Congratulations to Sue on her retirement, and a huge Thank You for being such a dedicated Democrat.
