Because of You, Bern Co Dems Become a Statewide Example | | |
Because of you, we just proved what happens when an entire county comes together with purpose and determination.
From every corner of Bernalillo County — city neighborhoods, rural communities, the East Mountains, and everywhere in between — you showed up. You knocked doors, talked to your neighbors, shared literature, and made sure Democrats across our county knew their voice mattered. The result is something truly inspiring.
Out of 197,332 registered Democrats in Bernalillo County, 82,368 cast ballots in the gubernatorial primary. That’s more than 41% turnout — a powerful achievement that has the whole state taking notice. This didn’t happen by accident. It happened because every one of you did the work.
This kind of turnout gets attention. Campaigns across New Mexico are already looking our way, and we are ready to do even more in November. We have built real momentum, and together we are going to carry it forward to victory.
Thank you for your hard work, your commitment, and your belief in what we can accomplish as one county united. This is what leadership looks like. This is what power looks like.
Take some well deserved time to rest. We have a lot of work ahead to keep building through the year.

How to Resist Amazon in Albuquerque
By Kathleen Moseley, 1st Vice Chair, Bernalillo County Dems

Were you ticked or maybe even incensed that Amazon spent $40 million to pay Melania Trump (and therefore the Trump family) for a movie for which there was no demand? Was that the “straw that broke the camel’s back for you as well? Want to support our Democratic platform in a meaningful way to minimize support of corporate influence on government? Was the movie simply a wake up call that Amazon had way too much power?
Amazon’s predatory pricing somehow slid past our antitrust reform laws to build huge vertical and horizontal platforms because they were built on low prices for consumers.. Our antitrust policies did not have the foresight to recognize the huge internet platforms and the vertical integration dangers to competition that Amazon’s approaches would present. As a 2017 Yale Law Journal describes, Amazon
“is now a marketing platform, a delivery and logistics network, a payment service, a credit lender, an auction house, a major book publisher, a producer of television and films, a fashion designer, a hardware manufacturer, and a leading host of cloud server space. Although Amazon has clocked staggering growth, it generates meager profits, choosing to price below-cost and Expand widely instead.”

Whether you object to Amazon’s monopolistic practices, anti union and labor concerns, tech contracts with immigration enforcement agencies, or environmental concerns of their carbon footprint and rapid delivery waste, keep reading for how you might be able to resist.
All politics is economics. Vote with your money! “How to Resist Amazon and Why” author Danny Caine offers us these ideas to resist Amazon:
| | |
Additionally, advocate! Advocate with your federal legislator for antitrust reform!
- Back the FTC in lawsuits and make sure the agency has sufficient funding to do so.
- Back the American Innovation and Choice Online Act.
- Ask state legislators to adopt an "Abuse of Dominance" standard. This standard removes the narrow "consumer welfare" focus (which only looks at low consumer prices) and outlaws specific practices large firms use to squeeze smaller competitors.
-
Join "Athena," a coalition of people who want to change the way corporations like Amazon can do business in our country. https://athenaforall.org/
Share your thoughts and ideas on ways you are resisting Amazon in upcoming issues of the Blue Review!

Dems Deliver a ticket that reflects the beauty of our state
As we head into November, Democrats are making history with a ticket that reflects the future of New Mexico:
- A Democratic woman nominee for Governor, the first Native American Governor: Deb Haaland
- A Democratic woman nominee for Lieutenant Governor: Maggie Toulse Oliver
- A Hispanic Democratic woman nominee for Secretary of State: Amanda Lopez Askin
- A young Hispanic Democratic nominee leading a statewide race: Juan De Jesus Sanchez III
While Republicans were fighting childcare in court, Democrats were fighting for families and building a ticket that looks like New Mexico.
|
The GOP lie of being the party of “Family values”
Republicans claim to be the party of “family values” and say they support working families. Yet many of the same Republican leaders and organizations opposed New Mexico’s constitutional amendment creating the Early Childhood Education and Care Trust Fund and later backed legal efforts challenging the state’s universal childcare program. Their position would have put affordable childcare, pre-K, and early childhood services at risk for thousands of New Mexico families. After losing in court, their effort to roll back universal childcare failed.
