DNC Chair Ken Martin: "We Can Only Reap What We Sow"

By Jacob Trujillo

**First, if you live in Rio Rancho or know friends of family, tell them to go vote!! This is a historic election and we have to do all we can to promote democracy.**

Bernalillo County Democrats showed up in New Orleans last week, and I came home with a clear sense of what this moment demands from us.

I joined the Young Dems of New Mexico, DPNM leadership, and our DNC members for the joint Young Democrats of America and DNC meetings. The city was full of energy, but inside those rooms, the focus was simple: how we organize to win in 2026.

Ken Martin spoke across caucuses and general sessions, and one message carried through every conversation. We can only reap what we sow.

That is the challenge in front of us.

If we want to win, we have to organize everywhere. Not just the places we know. Not just the people who already agree with us. Every neighborhood. Every community. Every voter. That work is not done yet, and it will take all of us to do it right.

Here in Bernalillo County, we are ready to step up. This summer is about doing more, going deeper, and making sure no one is left out of the work ahead. That is how we build toward November and beyond.

We are also putting ourselves in a position to actually do this big work! We submitted our CFIS report yesterday, and we are now above $62,000 in our account, the strongest position our party has ever been in. This may just sound like a number, but context matters. From the 2024 First Primary Report, we had about 35k to work with. Two years later, DPBC has almost doubled that number, while spending more and more every month. That is real resources to have our biggest year yet.

With that, we will tend to the seeds we planted already, and plant thousands more across the county. Let's get to work.

There is so much you can do, but all I ask is to do something.

Thank you all,

DEMS DELIVER: Accountability Means Showing Up

Democrats are demanding accountability — full stop.

That means requiring Pam Bondi to testify and answer for her actions, under oath, in public.

And let’s be clear: leaving office does not put anyone above accountability. Whether she is in power or not, Democrats are prepared to use every available legal and congressional tool to ensure she testifies.

Public service comes with public responsibility.

If you made decisions that impacted the American people, you answer for them.

That’s what accountability looks like. Thank you to our Congressional Delegation.

ANOTHER GOP LIE: “Most Transparent Administration in History”

Republicans continue to claim they are running the most transparent administration in history.

The record says otherwise.

This is the same political apparatus that has:

  • Refused to fully comply with oversight requests
  • Delayed or blocked document production
  • Attacked investigators instead of cooperating
  • Picked and chose when transparency applies

You cannot call yourself transparent while actively avoiding scrutiny.

Transparency is not a slogan. It is a standard — and Republicans have consistently failed to meet it.

Every week, we will dive into our party platform, our resolutions, or big topics and take a stand.

Week of April 14th: Agriculture

By: 1st Vice Chair Kathy Moseley

                 The NM Democratic Agricultural Platform

The NM Democratic platform is divided into issue topics.   Each issue topic has an introductory paragraph highlighting overall themes, aspirational statements preceded by  “we affirm:”, followed by specific action items, prefaced by, “We will:

This spring in light of recent updates to the Farm bill, it seems appropriate to review the platform on “Agriculture.”  Given that New Mexico is both a desert in terms of climate and often a food desert, due to its rural nature, it seems also appropriate to highlight themes regarding water and agriculture throughout this section. Learn more about the Agriculture platform HERE

  • We support equitable local and sustainable New Mexico farming and ranching, fair water access emphasizing agriculture that feeds New Mexicans, water conservation efforts, and regenerative soil practices.
  • Sustainable farming practices, including regenerative agriculture, soil health, diversified crops, water conservation, worker safety, and fair labor practices are important to help alleviate food insecurity in both urban and rural communities; and
  • Support funding and prioritization of local farming, including community-supported agriculture (CSAs) and infrastructure to bring products to market; and (to learn more about CSAs near you click HERE
  • Support incentives for transitioning to locally sustainable agricultural practices, (to learn more about backyard farming series and upcoming April 18th class, click HERE)
  • Modifications to the Farm Bill, to adjust its formulas to accommodate the Southwest's more arid agricultural conditions; and
  • Ongoing research on improvements to agriculture has an important role in mitigating climate change, adapting agriculture to a changing climate, and potentially providing carbon credits to farmers; and
  • Monocropping, large-scale farming, and concentrated animal-feeding operations are not healthy, nor are they sustainable; and
  • We must increase access to fresh and nutritious foods in all communities, under the direction of impacted communities.

Some examples of our representatives utilizing our agricultural platform:

  • Representative Vasquez, challenging the wisdom of importing Argentine beef with higher prices due to tariffs vs. beef from New Mexico, allowing reuse of energy on farms and ranches,
  • HB101 Farm to Food Bank Appropriation by Senator LIz Stefanics, and others
  • HB 109, Criteria for Prioritizing Water Projects by Representative Joy Garrett and others

DPBC Pre-Primary Delegates, Vote Yes!
Join Tonight's Forum!

Submitted by EJC Caucus

Dear Delegates,

Please vote YES on all Resolutions in the final voting - you will get the ballot tomorrow! Please join EJC for an additional opportunity to learn about and discuss the resolutions Tuesday 4/14 at 7pm, by ZOOM

We especially invite questions about Resolution 2, so that we can continue to correct misinformation and clarify the Resolution’s purpose to support the people’s struggles in strength and unity. This resolution affirms the people’s opposition to Blackstone buying PNM; and proposes the state’s investment in a controlling share of PNM stock. This proposal would not convert PNM to government ownership and thus would leave union contracts and benefits in full force and effect. At the same time, Resolution 2 secures for the people of New Mexico both a greater ability to direct PNM’s implementation of the state’s clean energy transition and a share of PNM’s revenue, too! EJC stands in solidarity with the sovereign peoples of the Tribal Nations and Pueblos and with union members from every economic sector. We stand in solidarity with the 94% of the Bernalillo County Central Committee who voted YES on this Resolution; and the hundreds of people who lined up for hours to give public comment against Blackstone at the PRC (this public response was organized by No False Solutions, YUCCA, Pueblo Action Alliance and Los Jardines Institute). We look forward to continuing to dialogue with these and all communities and all New Mexico Democrats about this resolution.

The following explains (1) effects, if any, of the voting on the amendments and (2) the content of the resolutions themselves:

RESOLUTION 2026-01:  Resolution to Establish a People’s Primary Rule Deterring Billionaires and Corporations from Buying or Unduly Influencing New Mexico Democratic Primaries

An Ad-Hoc committee convened by DPNM Chair Sara Attleson drafted this resolution and will be working with the Rules Committee to create a new rule to implement

RESOLUTION 2026-02 -- “No” to Blackstone’s Proposed Acquisition of PNM; “Yes” to Public Power & the People’s Management of Resources in the Commons

This resolution has two parts: affirming the party's opposition to Blackstone buying PNM; and proposing that the state invest in a controlling share of PNM stock. This proposal would not convert PNM to government ownership; union contracts or benefits would stay in effect; the people of New Mexico would have a greater ability to direct PNM’s implementation of NM’s clean energy transition; and receive a share of PNM’s revenues (dividends), too! EJC stands in solidarity with the sovereign peoples of the Tribal Nations and Pueblos and with union members from every economic sector.

RESOLUTION 2026-03 -- The State of New Mexico Must Create a Transit Fund (read the original resolution here; amendments were approved for this resolution to 1) replace the phrase "funding they need to expand and adequately staff their transit organizations" with "funding they need to expand service and adequately staff their transit organizations" and 2) to replace the phrase "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the DPNM strongly urges that the State of New Mexico make Zero Fares a state-wide mandate as soon as possible" with "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the DPNM strongly urges the state of New Mexico to provide incentives for transit organizations to implement free fares"

This resolution calls for the creation of a State Transit Fund to provide cities and rural areas with funding to expand service, staff their public transit organizations and implement incentives for free fares.

RESOLUTION 2026-04 -- Addressing Root Causes of Healthcare Worker Shortages

This resolution calls for implementing multiple specific remedies for dysfunction in our current healthcare system and funding the Legislative Healthcare Workforce Committee to further study causes of provider shortages with the objective of developing actionable data.

PUBLIC COMMENT for RESOLUTION 2026-05: Support for State Payer Healthcare Insurance Plan

This resolution calls for the establishment of a universally available state-sponsored healthcare insurance plan (“public option”) that will be financed by federal and state funds, as well as private funds with the intention of eventually adopting a single-payer model. Medicaid benefits would be protected or enhanced; Medicaid funds would be used solely to fund services for Medicaid beneficiaries.

Again this forum will be held on Tuesday, 4/14 at 7 pm. The zoom link is here. We look forward to further discussion of these proposals with you.
