Early Voting Has Started. Albuquerque, Are We Ready to Defeat Darren White’s Regressive Policies?

By Jacob Trujillo, Chair, Democratic Party of Bernalillo County

Early voting is underway from December 1 to December 6, and I want to speak directly to every Democrat across Bernalillo County. This runoff will decide the future of our city. The direction of public safety, housing, economic opportunity, and community well being is in our hands, and the outcome depends on who shows up this week.

Runoff elections are quiet. They come quickly and are easy to miss. That is why our participation matters. When fewer people vote, the voices shaping our neighborhoods come from a smaller group of residents. When Democrats vote, we lift up policies rooted in dignity, service, and long term progress.

Mayor Tim Keller has spent eight years rebuilding systems that keep communities safe. Crime is declining, APD is stronger, and the Community Safety Department has become a national model. Keller expanded treatment beds, invested in housing, and strengthened outreach to families in crisis. These efforts help people every day and set Albuquerque up for a stronger future.

This progress is on the line. Darren White is offering a return to outdated tactics that failed Albuquerque before. His record shows reactive approaches and harmful policies, and he would align our city with national agendas that do not reflect our values. We have already seen how Trump has targeted blue cities across the country. Darren White would welcome that playbook, and Albuquerque cannot afford leadership that opens the door to federal intimidation or division.

Mayor Keller enters this final stretch with support from unions, Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury, Albuquerque Indivisible, Alex Uballez, the Albuquerque Police Officers Association, and community organizations across our city, plus so many more. These endorsements reflect a broad, united recognition that Albuquerque needs steady leadership focused on building solutions, not tearing them down.

Early voting continues through December 6 from 10 AM to 7 PM at seventeen locations across the city. Same day registration is available at every site. The Clerk’s full list of voting locations is here:

https://www.bernco.gov/clerk/absentee-and-early-voting-locations/

If you can vote early, please make your plan this week. Bring someone with you. Text your friends. Remind your neighbors. Many people do not realize there is a December election, and your reminder may be the reason they show up.

I am also asking every Democrat to volunteer for just one hour this week. One hour of calls. One hour of knocking a few doors. One hour helping spread voting information. A single hour can shift turnout in a meaningful way, and the campaign has options for both in person and virtual participation.

City Council Districts 1 and 3 are also on the ballot. District 1 features two strong Democrats, and District 3 needs us to elect Stephanie Telles against a MAGA backed opponent fueled by corporate dark money. These seats will shape how our city invests in public safety, infrastructure, and neighborhood services.

Early voting has begun. This is when it matters. Albuquerque thrives when we show up for each other. Let’s vote, let’s volunteer, and let’s keep our city moving forward.

Early Voting December 1-6

Run Off Election December 9

This runoff election will shape the next chapter of Albuquerque’s story — and the stakes couldn’t be higher. From how we keep our streets safe, to how our children learn, to what kind of city we’re building for the future — it all depends on what we do right now.

The contests for Mayor — between Tim Keller and Darren White — and for City Council in Districts 1 and 3 will be razor-close. Every conversation, every door knock, every vote will make a difference.

Early voting continues through December 6 from 10 AM to 7 PM at seventeen locations across the city. Same day registration is available at every site. The Clerk’s full list of voting locations is here:

Our Community Our Voice - NE Heights Dems

Every Thursday, the corner of Paseo del Norte & Ventura NE (by Trader Joe’s and Albertsons) becomes more than just pavement — it becomes the people’s pulpit. From Noon to 1 PM, voices rise, signs lift, and hearts unite under one banner: Our Community, Our Voices!

We’re not just protesting — we’re proclaiming.

We’re saying no to tyranny, no to cruelty, and YES to the enduring promise that government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth.

Bring your passion, your poster, and your presence. Whether you’ve marched a thousand times or never before — this is your moment to stand tall, speak loud, and show that Albuquerque’s NE Heights has fire in its soul and love in its purpose.

Because when neighbors gather, democracy breathes again. 🌹💙

Take Down Tesla Protests

Tesla-Protest-Saturdays-summer image

Protesting Tesla is stopping Musk. Stopping Musk will save lives and our democracy. The stakes couldn't be higher. But no one is coming to save us.

We need you!! Join us and protest all that the Trump administration has done and continues to do to hurt people and our country.

We are out there every single Saturday protesting in front of the Tesla Dealership. The more the merrier!

The dealership is on Indian land and we do not have permission to go on the property. Instead we gather at the huge intersection of Hwys 550 and 528 across from the Tesla Showroom in Bernalillo.

You may have heard that Elon said he is “stepping back” from DOGE to get back to the business of Tesla. Don’t believe it for a minute. We can’t let up now because

  • his people are still installed across the government
  • he’s already done enormous damage
  • he’ll continue using Tesla stock to fund assaults on democracy
  • other billionaires are watching closely to see what happens

We MUST double down on protests, pull more people in, and keep up the heat. See you Saturdays!!
