Last Week to Vote Early!

Grab Your Neighbors, Go Vote, and Make Your Voice Heard.

Expanded early voting has begun and Election Day is Tuesday, June 2.

It is time to help voters make a plan, understand what is on their ballot, and participate in the primary.

As a primary voter, you are a part of super engaged voters who will decide who our Democratic nominees are. It is a huge deal and we hope you research all the candidates above.

Over the next few weeks, DPBC will be focused on voter contact, primary education, and making sure Democrats across Bernalillo County know how and when to vote. Primary ballots are full of important choices this year, and yes, some of them may even require voters to use their handwriting skills.

Ward and precinct chairs have an important role to play in this work. Whether it is texting neighbors, making calls, sharing voting information, or helping someone find their polling location, every action helps build turnout.

Primary elections can be passionate, and that is okay. Democrats care deeply about our communities and our future. But we also have a responsibility to lead with respect, stay focused on the issues, and remember that after June 2, we will need to come together to win in November.

If you are voting or want to get good information to neighbors, please use our election guide:
DPBC PRIMARY GUIDE

We only reap what we sow. If we want strong Democratic turnout, strong candidates, and a strong party, we have to organize now.

Expanded early voting is underway. Election Day is June 2.

Let’s get to work.

Chair Jacob Trujillo

Democrats deliver care of our veterans with expanded health care access for veterans through the PACT Act, the largest expansion of VA benefits in generations, helping veterans exposed to burn pits and toxic substances finally get the care they earned. Democrats also fought to strengthen VA staffing, mental health services, and reduce homelessness among veterans.

Claim:

Donald Trump and Republicans claim to “support our veterans,”

but Trump-era and Republican-backed cuts weakened the VA system, including attempts to slash federal workforce protections, privatize veteran care, and proposed budgets that cut programs veterans rely on. In 2025, Trump’s administration moved to eliminate tens of thousands of VA jobs, raising alarms from veterans groups about longer wait times and reduced care like our very own Veterans Integration Center who is having to shoulder the cuts from the VA.

Talk with us! What are your thoughts? Whether you just have a few sentences or an opinion piece you want to submit, submit it for review at info@bernalillodems.org.

New Mexico’s public schools are facing serious challenges at a time when education is under pressure nationwide. From efforts to undermine public education to attacks on educators and local decision-making, this moment requires strong leadership and accountability.

That is why I am running as a declared write-in candidate for Public Education Commission District 3.

Why HD27 Needs to Reelect Rep. Marian Matthews
By Diane Denish

I read with interest the op-ed by Julie Rochman suggesting that HD27 should elect a new Democratic Representative. Rochman  does not live in HD27 – she lives in HD31 where a Republican holds the seat. But beyond my  curiosity about why she isn’t working to elect a Democrat in her own district rather than trying to defeat  a solid Democratic incumbent like Matthews, her op-ed deserves a response that sets the record straight.

For the record, I don’t live in HD27 either.  However,  unlike Rochman I actually know Rep. Matthews and her long time record of supporting Democrats and good policy.  Unfortunately, Rochman has adopted the all too popular strategy of lying about someone’s record or at best twisting information to help her candidate Abby Foster.

So here are the facts:

Dark Money
By Sara Samani

Dear Democrats,

Since the Supreme Court’s Citizens United v. FEC decision overturned a century-old preceden, allowing candidates to accept unlimited sums of dark money, our country has spiraled away from responding to the needs of regular people.

The vast majority of both Republican and Democratic voters agree that money has far too much influence in politics. While we wait on Congress to act, we are not defenseless. Under our legal system, states determine exactly what a corporation is and what it has the power to do. To stifle the corrupting influence of Citizens United, a state simply needs to revoke a corporation’s power to spend money on political campaigns. Montana and California are already moving in this direction. Hawaii has already succeeded.

A Note From Rep. Joy Garratt: The Blue Review and HD27

I would like to suggest that the Blue Review not be used by Democrats to campaign against Democratic candidates that they oppose. Those Democrats disparaging other Democrats should use their personal social media accounts if they take such stands, not the media tools sponsored by official Democratic publications.

There are at least five BernCo House and County primaries where Democrats are opposing other Democrats. I believe it's vital that we honor and respect every individual who chooses to run for office or is in office--we may disagree on certain issues but not all. It takes an incredible work ethic to serve, let me tell you.

I want to make a few informational notes for those who may not be familiar with legislative functioning as it came up in a twice- published article in the “Blue Review” spreading misinformation about Rep. Marian Matthews.
