Happy 250 Years, America! What Kind of Nation Do We Build Over The Next 250?

Hi Bern Co Dems,

Chair Jacob Trujillo here.

We’ve gotten some community input about events to be at this week, and I wanted to flag them. America is celebrating its 250th birthday, so it feels like the right time to talk about what we actually want the next 250 years to look like — and that starts with showing up when decisions are being made.

On Wednesday, July 1 at 9 AM, community members are asking people to show up at the Bernalillo County Planning Commission meeting on the proposed mosque and community center. It’s at the Ken Sanchez Commission Chambers, 415 Silver Ave SW. When hate and islamophobia shows up at these hearings, just like it did a few weeks ago, it matters that regular people show up too. If we want communities where everyone can live and worship without fear, we have to be willing to be present when those questions are on the table.

On Thursday, July 2 at 10 AM, community members are asking for turnout at the Public Regulation Commission open meeting in Room 309 at the State Capitol in Santa Fe. This one is about the proposed utility takeovers. These are decisions that will affect what we pay for gas and electricity for years to come. When big outside money wants to buy our utilities, the only way regular ratepayers get a real voice is if we actually show up and put comments on the record before things get locked in.

You can go in person (no signup), request a Zoom link by emailing public.comment@prc.nm.gov before 5 PM tomorrow, or drop written comments in the PRCe360 portal (use case numbers 24-00266-UT for NM Gas and 25-00060-UT for PNM).

This week is about more than just meetings. It’s about whether we’re willing to show up and shape the future instead of letting it get shaped for us. Let’s be there.

Appreciate y’all,

Happy 4th of July Week!

Hi Bernalillo County Dems

Happy 250th birthday to our great country, the United States of America. We are in a tough year, and it is going to be tougher, but we can get through this. We can win the Senate. We can win the House in November. We just have to continue phone banking, canvassing, and forums. That is the work we must continue, and I ask you to keep doing it.

I know we Americans have our good days and bad days, but when we hear great leaders speak to us with inspiring words, we know we can keep doing the work. On the 250th birthday of our country, we are proud to be Americans. As Franklin Delano Roosevelt once said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." He said those words at his first inauguration in 1932.

In a way, he is right, because fear can put our country into the wrong hands. We must keep our country safe and beautiful by working hard and doing better, no matter what. We are Democrats. We are Americans of the great United States of America. So to all Democrats, I want to say: have a wonderful Fourth of July and a happy 250th birthday, stay safe, and do all you can to help Democrats win the House and the Senate in this midterm. Let us keep working together and finish strong.

Our Community Our Voice - NE Heights Dems

Every Thursday, the corner of Paseo del Norte & Ventura NE (by Trader Joe’s and Albertsons) becomes more than just pavement — it becomes the people’s pulpit. From New Time for Summer 10am to 11am, voices rise, signs lift, and hearts unite under one banner: Our Community, Our Voices!

We’re not just protesting — we’re proclaiming.

We’re saying no to tyranny, no to cruelty, and YES to the enduring promise that government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth.

Bring your passion, your poster, and your presence. Whether you’ve marched a thousand times or never before — this is your moment to stand tall, speak loud, and show that Albuquerque’s NE Heights has fire in its soul and love in its purpose.
