New Mexico Has A Chance To Change Presedential Politics

Hi Bern Co Dems,

Big news: the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee just recommended New Mexico as the fourth early state for the 2028 Democratic presidential primary. If approved, we vote February 15 — right after South Carolina, Nevada, and New Hampshire.

This is huge. For too long, candidates treated us like an afterthought. Now they’ll have to come here early and earn the votes of Hispanic and Native communities that define our state.

Governor Lujan Grisham said it best: New Mexico has moved “from an afterthought to a state where presidential campaigns will organize from day one.” They chose us because of what we’ve built — free college, universal childcare, and real results for working families.

This win belongs to every organizer, volunteer, and Democrat who refused to stay quiet.

Action needed now:

Protect Chaco. Comments close tomorrow, July 29. Tell the Trump administration to keep the 10-mile buffer. Submit here:

Keep organizing. November is coming. 2028 starts now.

New Mexico Democrats are fighting back. As the Trump administration moves to roll back protections around Chaco Canyon and National Historical Park and reopen the surrounding landscape to new oil and gas drilling, New Mexico’s Democratic leaders have united with Tribal nations to defend one of the world’s most significant Indigenous cultural sites. U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Luján, Representative Teresa Leger Fernández, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, Pueblo leaders, and advocates have publicly opposed the rollback, demanded meaningful Tribal consultation, encouraged public participation, and pledged to use every available tool to protect Chaco’s sacred landscapes and archaeological treasures from further development, be sure to make your voice known.

Donald Trump is once again claiming he can simply order oil companies to lower gasoline prices, even urging energy executives to “keep oil prices down.” But markets don’t work that way. His administration’s military escalation with Iran has heightened instability in one of the world’s most important oil-producing regions, fueling uncertainty in global energy markets and putting upward pressure on prices. While Trump continues making promises of cheaper gas, there is still no meaningful or lasting resolution to the conflict in sight, making those promises increasingly disconnected from the economic reality Americans are facing.
