Bern Co Dems,
After Maggie Toulouse Oliver stepped back from the Lieutenant Governor race for health and family reasons, I know a lot of you have questions about what happens next. I wanted to be upfront with you: we care about transparency, and we’re going to do the best we can to make sure our members and the public actually understand the process instead of just hearing about it after the fact.
Under DPNM rules, once the Secretary of State’s office sends official notice of the vacancy, the State Central Committee will fill the spot. This is the same process we’ve used before for special elections and other vacancies. The SCC isn’t some secretive group — it’s made up of folks elected at the grassroots level through our precincts, wards, and county parties. I think it’s important people hear that directly.
That’s why we’re hosting our June General Meeting this Saturday, June 27, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at Botts Hall in the Special Collections Library (423 Central Ave NE). Doors open at 2:00. This is an external monthly meeting focused on electoral work, and it’s open to the general public — not just party members.
I’ve asked DPNM Co Executive Director Isaiah Baca to join us and walk through exactly how this works, how it’s worked in the past, and what the timeline looks like. We’ll also do a quick primary recap and talk about what’s ahead for the general election.
If you want straight answers and a clear explanation, come through. Bring your questions. That’s what these meetings are for. Thanks, Jacob Trujillo
