Blue Ridge Community College thrives because so many of you - our partners, supporters, employees, students, representatives, and graduates - have experienced the difference that higher education makes in our community and state, and you continue to advance our mission to build a stronger workforce. As you may have read in our latest annual report, Blue Ridge continues to grow, and I'm grateful to so many of you who created the momentum behind these stories.
Now, to our readers ready to go further in their education and professional lives: I'd like to remind you that Blue Ridge recently added numerous programs in response to demand from our students and the needs of the local workforce. Now is the moment to make a move toward a career with loads of opportunities!
Consider a future in artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, medical office administration, environmental engineering technology, civil engineering technology, practical nursing, or respiratory therapy (coming this fall '24). Plus, we're currently taking applications for all of our popular healthcare programs, like nursing and surgical technology.

Looking for fast progress? We also offer short-term training credential opportunities that can be completed in as little as a month or two, as well as 8-week Short Courses throughout the year to help fast-track your degree.
We've done our homework, and we know we provide programs that lead to rewarding jobs in our community. At Blue Ridge, summer and fall enrollment is currently open. Get started with your application at www.blueridge.edu/admissions, and be sure to complete the federal "FAFSA" form as part of your application. This is how we determine your eligibility for all sorts of state and federal financial aid programs, in addition to over 200 local scholarships made possible by generous donors through our Educational Foundation. Next NC Scholarship to Fully Cover Tuition and Fees for Many Community College Students | |

This fall, North Carolina community college students from families making $80,000 or less each year could receive a state scholarship that fully covers the costs of tuition and fees. According to the terms of the Next NC Scholarship, eligible North Carolina students attending a community college will receive up to $3,000 per year, covering educational expenses with funds that will not need to be repaid.

Blue Ridge Begins Construction of Automated Greenhouse in Henderson County | |
The site of a soon-to-be state-of-the-art automated greenhouse attracted educators, community members, elected officials and industry leaders from across the region to Blue Ridge Community College on March 4. The new 4,727 sq. ft. greenhouse will be used for instruction in technology-centered agricultural methods, training for employees for local agribusinesses and to encourage interdisciplinary learning activities between the College’s related programs, such as information technology, cybersecurity, engineering technology and advanced manufacturing. | |
Blue Ridge to Offer Respiratory Therapy as Southwestern Community College Satellite Program | |
This fall, Blue Ridge Community College’s Transylvania County Campus in Brevard will serve as a satellite location for a new Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy program through Sylva’s Southwestern Community College (SCC). With accreditation for the satellite campus received in mid-March, Blue Ridge and SCC are now accepting applications for respiratory therapy programs at both locations for the fall semester. Blue Ridge Community College’s short-term training programs offer multiple opportunities for pivoting quickly and inexpensively. Many of these short-term training programs can be completed in just six months or less, and they include careers in high-demand fields like public safety, healthcare, skilled trades and advanced manufacturing. These fields boost earning potential, career opportunities and ensure job security. | |

This summer, area students are invited to attend ten summer camps hosted by Blue Ridge Community College! Registration is open through May 31.
Blue Ridge Community College summer camps offer fun, affordable, high-quality learning opportunities for elementary, middle and high school students. Students will gain valuable hands-on skills and problem-solving experiences across a variety of engaging topics in one-, two- or three-day camps.
Camp registration fees range from only $10 to $100. Descriptions of each camp and online registration information can be found on the College website at www.blueridge.edu/summer-camps. Campers are encouraged to register early, as camps fill up quickly. Scholarships are available.

Blue Ridge Receives Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Grant | |

“Blue Ridge Community College is committed to providing state-of-the-art training to support the current and future needs of our regional business, industry and community partners,” said Dr. Scott Queen, vice president for economic and workforce development at Blue Ridge Community College. “This grant provided by the Appalachian Regional Commission will afford our College the opportunity to augment current automotive systems technology programming to include training for fully electric vehicles – in addition to hybrid vehicles already incorporated into the curriculum.”

Piano Concert Series Continues April 23
Mark your calendars for April 23, 2024 to see Dr. Lino Rivera, our final performer of the Concert Series for this academic year. Born in the Philippines, Dr. Rivera is a professor in the Performing Arts Department at Saint Mary’s College of California. He concertizes widely, and is a celebrated performer for Composers, Inc., a San Francisco-based organization dedicated to promoting works by contemporary American composers.

Popular Annual Plant Sale Returns to Blue Ridge Community College on April 20 and 27 | |
The Blue Ridge Community College horticulture program will host a public plant sale on Saturday, April 20 and 27, in the Bullington Greenhouse of the College’s Henderson County Campus from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The popular annual event attracts plant appreciators from across Western North Carolina to enjoy and purchase plants grown by the College’s students. All proceeds from the event will benefit Blue Ridge’s horticulture program. | |
Blue Ridge Community College Library to Host 2024 Preservation Week | |

The Blue Ridge Community College Library invites the public to celebrate Preservation Week on campus this April 23 – 26, 2024. The planned festivities include two documentaries, discussion, a local history fair, and a document scanning day.
April 23: Documentary and Discussion – A Great American Tapestry, 12:30 p.m.
April 24: Local History Fair, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
April 25: Community Scanning Day, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
April 26: Documentary – Hamtramck, USA, 1 p.m.

Music by the Lake Starts June 9
Each summer, Blue Ridge Community College offers summer concerts beside the lake on our Henderson County Campus as a gift to the community. These free Sunday evening concerts are scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. and feature a wide range of musical and vocal groups. The first concert takes place on June 9. See the current lineup and mark your calendars!

Visit the Lakeside Café
Operated by the Hendersonville Community Co-op, The Lakeside Café is open to the public for business in the Killian Building of the Henderson County Campus! Typical hours are M-F, 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Multiple delicious breakfast and lunch meals are offered, including vegan and gluten-free options. Current hours and menu information are available on the co-op website.
