Weeks like this remind us all of the harsh realities of farming. The shot above captures Farmer Nate Thomas of Breakaway Farms after moving his entire herd to fresh pasture in the midst of Wednesday's violent thunderstorm. Meanwhile, in Emmaus, Pheasant Hill Farm had their high tunnels punctured with golf ball sized hail. Our farmers go to great lengths to grow your food. Come show em' some love this Saturday.

The Power of Produce (POP) Club is a farmers market-based children’s program, that offers children the opportunity to learn about seasonal, locally grown fruits and vegetables through fun activities. Our weekly activities range from cooking demonstrations to farmers market scavenger hunts, providing nutrition, food, agriculture, and exercise education. Participants are rewarded for each activity by receiving vouchers to spend at the market. This empowers kids by offering them authority to select and buy their own food from farmers and local vendors at the market.

Join POP coordinator Jenna Gavin this Saturday, for our Kickoff event: Produce Picture Journaling―learning to creatively track your daily fruits and vegetables. Log your first seasonal fruit or vegetable with Easton Farmers’ Market, and carry this practice home with your own customized Produce Journal!

Last week shoppers voted The Backyard Growers their favorite vendor of the week! Richard Hafner and Ed Fulmer have been with the EFM for over twenty years. And during that time they've shared with all of us their green thumbs, good humor and immense wisdom for growing everything from rare plants to glorious flowers, and some seriously hot peppers! We've enjoyed their heirloom apples and their famed kiwi berries, and anybody who knows them, knows ya gotta get there early if you expect to get anything. Congrats guys!

Comeback Farm Returns!
Your favorite organic fruit farmer, Pete Tischler returns to the circle this week. And that can mean only one thing... STRAWBERRIES!

The first picking of organic strawberries has finally started at Comeback Orchards after a few setbacks from weather and wildlife. Earliglo is not a huge berry, but it's huge on flavor, and farmer Pete's favorite. Small first crop, will sell out fast, but more next week.

Organic fruit butters will also be available.
Salvaterra's Gardens
Fennel and cabbage are new on the table this week at Salvaterra's Gardens. Try this delicious recipe for Roasted Fennel with Parmesan - from Giada DeLaurentiis.

And of course Matt & Jess will have their usual bounty of greens including Spring mix and head lettuce and arugula. Look for collards and kale, tender spinach, escarole, pak choy, hakurei turnips, scallions (great on the grill), beets, carrots and lots of fresh aromatic herbs - parsley, dill and cilantro.

Cabbage Throw Farm
Herb Sale!
Grilling season is officially in full swing and Cabbage Throw Farm is tossing you something new for your barbecue.  Grilled Bok Choy with herbs two ways:

Cut bok choy in half long ways and dress in olive oil and sea salt. Char on high heat and serve with your choice of dressing. 

1.) Farm Chimichurri
Finely chop Cilantro, Parsley and Scallions in with olive oil and red wine vinegar. Season to taste with salt, pepper, crushed red pepper. 
2.) Dilly Sauce
Finely chop dill into sour cream (or Greek yogurt), lemon juice, mustard, ground black pepper

Bring on the Berries!
Strawberries, strawberries, strawberries! Who can get enough of these local berries? Phillips Farms will continue to have juicy ripe strawberries this week. Rhubarb is also available, so you might want to try your hand at some easy Strawberry-Rhubarb crisp. Other items available at Phillips Farms: arugula; spring garlic; fennel; spinach; greenhouse tomatoes; apples; cider. This might be their last weekend with asparagus, so grab it while you can.

"We are so so excited to be selling our flowers at the Easton Farmers' Market for the first time this Saturday!! Though we live in and love our home town of Bangor, our connection to Easton runs deep. We both graduated with geoscience degrees from Lafayette College (class of 2011!). As students, we loved the community spirit of Easton, and especially the farmers' market. Jenn also has a long family connection to the city, including her grandfather who grew up in Easton and also went to Lafayette (class of 1951!). His love of growing flowers is an inspiration to Jenn everyday. We are so excited to "See you in the circle"! -Bryan & Jenn McAtee
Backyard Growers
This week's perennials include Agastache and Coreopsis. Annuals are Salvia and compact Dahlia. And featured for the first time, an unusual annual (perennial in zones 9 or 10) called Nolana (Chilean bellflower) with sky blue flowers! Nolana tends to creep and cascade,so it perfect for containers and hanging baskets. It's native to desert areas, so it doesn't need much water or care!
Also look for Calla Lillies, and veggie plants including tomato,bell pepper, cucumber and eggplant.
Pheasant Hill Farm
Pheasant Hill Farm will have floral bouquets with Asiatic lilies, sunflowers, chantilly snaps and more for market this week.

Unfortunately Pheasant Hill got golf-ball sized hail Wednesday, and while all of their high tunnels sustained punctures and will have to be replaced, their flowers, herbs and berries weathered the storm!

PorTch Tea will have the usual favorite offerings of kombucha. And Don’s bound to have a twist on the hail theme.

Rhubarb pies are still going strong at Tomblers... choose from hubarb crumb, rhubarb custard and strawberry-rhubarb, all made homegrown fresh picked organic rhubarb!

If you're looking for a savory treat, the pastie special this week is Shepards Pie. Homemade shepherd's pie filling and fresh lumpy mashed potatoes with butter and parsley, wrapped in a flaky pastry. Raspberry Ridge Sheep Farm
Rob returns this week with a fresh batch of Camembaa cheese which is a soft sheep's milk cheese similar to the famous Camembert from France. He'll also have some hard cheeses and his creamy sheep's milk yogurt - a perfect accompaniment to the sweet local strawberries next door at Phillips Farm!
Valley Milkhouse
This week, Valley Milkhouse is bringing its first spring batch of Blue Bell! This Stilton style raw milk blue is made from 100% grass fed milk and won a blue ribbon at the PA Farm Show for its exceptional flavor, creamy texture and toasty aromas. Stop by for a sample and bring a wedge home to crumble over your spring salad! 

VMH will also be bringing a special experimental batch of Brie made with a blend of sheep and cow’s milk! This cheese has peppery notes and floral aromas. Beautifully paired with a drizzle of Pete’s honey! 

Also in the lineup is Witchgrass, Thistle and Clover.
