Students Learn Advocacy Skills

Four high school students, Hazel M., Braynerd DLR., Heather M., and Angel S., and one parent, participated in the 4201 Association's Advocacy Day on February 11th. The students met with legislators representing twelve senate or assembly districts to explain the unique benefits of a specialized educational program for deaf students. Interim CEO/Superintendent Seth Bravin, Upper School Principal Lisa Meyer, and Community Relations Director Cindy Casson supported the students throughout the day. Middle School Drone Team Wins Award

Four Lexington students, comprising one middle school team and one high school team, competed in the 3rd Annual NRSC-ADIB D/HH Drone Tournament on February 7th and 8th. Congratulations to the Middle School's team, the Soaring Bluejays, for winning the Communication Award for their outstanding interview and engineering notebooks. During the competition, students flew drones through an obstacle course using both autonomous and remote-controlled features. The tournament was sponsored by the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) Regional STEM Center (NRSC) at the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind (ADIB) to promote STEM education and career awareness. The tournament was held at Great Wolf Lodge in LaGrange, GA.

Markuss and Yudesh, representing the middle school, took home the Communication Award. They were coached by middle school teachers Carol Kretschmer and Astrid Zea.

Media Club Produces News Show

Lexington’s Media and Yearbook Club is proud to announce a new weekly broadcast. Under the guidance of advisors Aileen Modesto and Pamula Manzueta, club members are learning the skills needed to produce a news show. Students are responsible for writing scripts, filming, editing, captioning, and serving as on-air talent. News shows are shown on the school's hall TVs in ASL with English captioning. Lexington is grateful to the New York State Technology and Development Program for providing grant funds for the TV studio.

Wrestling Season Recap

The wrestling program, led by coaches Sergio Carrillo Valdivieso and Gabriel Carino, had a strong rebuilding year after being inactive since 2018. This season marked a significant step forward in re-establishing the team. We would like to recognize Spencer Stelmach and John Grier, who generously volunteered their time to help with training and attended several matches to support our team. Their dedication was invaluable in helping our wrestlers develop their skills and confidence. The team had an overall record of 2-6 and participated in three tournaments. Lion's Club Provides Vision Screening

A big thank you to the Lion's Club of New York for providing a free vision screening to our students on February 3rd. A screening helps to identify significant ocular conditions but is not intended to substitute for a comprehensive eye exam. Over 60 students participated in the screening. Families will be notified if follow-up with an eye doctor is recommended.
