Deaf Awareness Week - Deaf Identity
The theme for this year's Deaf Awareness Week celebration was Deaf Identity: Embracing Yourself. In support of the theme, the Deaf Awareness Committee invited three Deaf role models to share their stories with students. Presenters included: David Rivera, Lex '94, college professor, interpreter, performer, and ASL storyteller; Wayne Betts, Jr., co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer at Convo Communications; and Maleni Chaitoo, Lex '96, business consultant/entrepreneur, film maker, actor, and global adventurer. A big Lexington thank you to the presenters and to the Deaf Awareness Committee!

Building Upgrades
Thanks to the New York State Education Department's (NYSED) 4201 Schools Capital Grant Program, Lexington's building will be a little warmer and dryer this winter. Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) upgrades over the summer included new insulation on the rooftop ducts and an overhaul of the heat exchangers, pumps, and controls in the Wing 1 and 2 mechanical rooms. NYSED's 4201 Capital Grant - Round 2 is covering the cost of a $3.2 million, six-month project to replace school roofs. Lexington is very appreciative of the support provided by NYS legislators, the 4201 Schools Association, and the NYSED in allocating funds to make these repairs.
