Bluemlein and Bluegrass at BCM this Week!
Meet Artist Tom Bluemlein
Sunday, June 10, 2-4 p.m.

"I follow what I call 'the golden rule' of painting. I only paint what interests me. This is being in nature." - Tom Bluemlein.

This quote perfectly defines the ethos of Kentucky native and impressionist painter, Tom Bluemlein. The artist has spent his 30-year career creating works that are not only beautiful impressions of nature, but also give the viewer the feeling of the landscape. His unique style uses bold colors and treats a canvas in a way that is similar to a quilt-maker, arranging the brush strokes and than rubbing the edges to blend or "stitch" the colors together. His works provide apt counterpoints to BCM's The Great Outdoors exhibit that is on display beginning on Sunday, June 10th and will run until October 1st, 2018.

Tom has apprenticed under several masters and through his workshops and demonstrations continues to give back to the next generation of painters. He is past president of the Cincinnati Art Club, signature member of the Oil Painters of America, Indiana Plein Air Painters, and past president and signature member of the American Impressionist Society.

Meet the artist and view his work at the opening reception from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 10. Cost is included with museum admission.

Coming Soon! The Great Outdoors
June 10- October 1
Another rotating exhibit is a salute to all of those exhilarating activities that we enjoy outside the confines of our homes, schools and offices. Whether we're strolling through the park or running a marathon, paddling a canoe or deep-sea fishing, outdoor activities clear our minds and provide a relaxing escape from day-to-day routines.

The exhibit features a look back at outdoor activities of the past, with entries from William Behringer's journals from the early 1900s and a display of antique Scout uniforms, and shows how our favorite outdoor activities have changed -- and stayed the same -- over time.
