The Hornby Island Blues Society Receives
"The Blues Booster of the Year" Award
We are thrilled to announce The Hornby Island Blues Society as the Blues Booster of the Year award recipient, a very special Maple Blues Award honouring outstanding contribution to the Canadian blues music industry.

The volunteer-driven organization hosts the Hornby Island Blues Week and Music Camp every May on beautiful Hornby Island, BC. Their mandate is to bring blues performers to the island to create a greater awareness of Canadian blues music and of the depth that Canadian musicians have to offer. 

Celebrating their 20 th year, The Hornby Island Blues Society will be honoured with the Blues Booster of the Year award at the 22 nd annual Maple Blues Awards in Toronto on February 4.

22 nd Maple Blues Awards
Heating up the night of February 4 th for the 22 nd annua l Maple Blues Awards will be performances from some of the hottest Canadian blues artists including, Steve Marriner of MonkeyJunk with Harry Manx , guitarist/singer-songwriter Sue Foley , who is nominated in six categories, Jenie Thai , who is nominated for Piano/Keyboard Player of the Year, blues-belter and Female Vocalist of the Year nominee Crystal Shawanda and Newfoundland’s Acoustic Act of the Year nominees Earle & Coffin .
The evening will also feature a performance from Raoul Bhaneja , actor and bandleader of Raoul & The Bigtime. Providing the MBA’s musical background and theme, The Maple Blues Band also accompanies all the guests who perform as part of that special night.

Montreal’s Guy Bélanger  will be hosting the popular lobby afterparty "Winner’s Circle Jam”!

We are so happy to partner with Miles Nadal Jewish Cultural Centre and ReelAbilities Film Festival Toronto  for AKA Doc Pomus movie being presented at the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema on Sunday, January 20! The documentary features Jerome Felder, who had Polio as a child and grew up to become the legendary Blues performer, then pop writer,  Doc Pomus who wrote hits  like Save the last Dance for me, Teenager in Love, Viva Las Vegas, This Magic Moment,  and Blues songs  Alley Alley Blues, Lonesome Avenue, a Mess of Blues  and many other Blues songs. The director of the film, Will Hechter, will be the guest speaker.

Richard Flohil to Keynote Blues Summit 9

Legendary music promoter and sage live music advocate Richard Flohil will step back from his perch spanning five decades to offer comments on the state of the music industry including anecdotes from his forthcoming book.  Richard will critically comment as the Keynote Speaker , on trends in the contemporary music scene from the vantage of having promoted artists ranging from Muddy Waters to Serena Ryder and Shakura S’Aida.
