The Laguna Beach Cultural Arts Center has stepped up to preserve one of America’s most powerful and influential art forms, by providing a memorable OC haven for national touring blues legends.
Nora Jean (Bruso/Wallace), a shining beacon of “real blues” as dubbed by the legendary Koko Taylor, embodies the soulful spirit of the Chicago Blues scene, deeply rooted in the rich soil of Greenwood, Mississippi. Raised in a musical family, with her father Bobby Lee Wallace serenading the blues and her mother Ida Lee Wallace lifting spirits through gospel, Nora was cradled in the heart of the genre from a tender age, absorbing the vibrant sounds of her family’s juke joint and the timeless tunes of blues icons like Howlin’ Wolf.
Her journey through the Chicago music landscape began in 1976, where she electrified local clubs before hitting the international stage with Jimmy Dawkins’ band in 1985, leaving her indelible mark on two of his albums. With her solo career soaring through releases like Nora Jean Bruso Sings the Blues (2002) and performances at prestigious festivals like King Biscuit and the Chicago Blues Festival, Nora’s music is a powerful testament to resilience and emotion, resonating with fans around the globe.
Join us at LBCAC to experience her transformative sound; let it take you on a nostalgic journey through the blues that uplifts and unites our community, reminding us that supporting local talent like Nora is not just an event, but a celebration of our shared artistic spirit. Don’t miss this chance to feel the rhythm and soul of blues—come witness the magic unfold!
