The Laguna Beach Cultural Arts Center has stepped up to preserve one of America’s most powerful and influential art forms, by providing a memorable OC haven for national touring blues legends.
Johnny Rawls is not just a soul blues legend; he is a living testament to the enduring power of music and its profound connection to the human experience. With a remarkable career that spans over five decades, he has carved out a unique space in the heart of the “soul blues” genre, earning recognition as the "Father" of soul blues and an award-winning recording artist, producer, and songwriter.
His journey, which began in the rich musical landscape of Mississippi during his childhood, is an inspiring tale of passion and perseverance. At just 15, he found himself backing musical giants like ZZ Hill and Joe Tex, and later took on the role of band director for O.V. Wright and Little Johnny Taylor before embarking on his own solo career in 1985. With over 15 albums and a staggering 200 performances each year, including headlining major blues festivals, Johnny Rawls continues to mesmerize audiences worldwide with his high-energy shows, celebrating the essence of life, love, and the transformative nature of music.
