Dear Friends,
Spring has sprung, bringing along with it something that has changed our lives now and forever. Like many of you, I am a parent, and the thought of homeschooling my son while working from home was a shock and very stressful. Once we settled on a schedule of sorts, I realized that this is a great opportunity for my son to spend more time outdoors than ever before. So, after reading, math, and/or writing, we head outside for a walk, digging in the dirt and blowing dandelion seeds. My favorite lesson? MUD! Water puddles are a close second.
Nature has always been the best medicine for me. So, my son and I planned some outings at the Fort Worth Nature Center, right before the city made the difficult decision to close it for the safety of staff and visitors like you and me. My son and I were crushed.
Instead of feeling defeated, my son said, “Mommy, don’t worry. We can still play in the backyard!” The message here is to GET OUTSIDE! Smell the spring air, look under rocks, watch birds, start a garden, and more. There are no limits and no RIGHT way to be a parent or grandparent during this unprecedented time.
The Friends will be in touch via email and on social media, sharing resources for outdoor play for kids and adults. No reason we can’t play in the mud! We will also be sharing videos and podcasts as a blast from the past. You can also enjoy this latest

Nature is everywhere and so important, not just right now, but for generations to come. The Friends’ Board of Directors and I thank you for your continued support so nature can be there when we need it most. It truly is the best medicine.
Please stay safe and healthy,
