Sweet Peas Ice Cream & Café
Sweet Peas owner and realtor, Susan DeMarco, moved to the Columbia area in 2007 with her six children who were all involved in sports. Up North, it was normal for children to hang out at ice cream shops after sports practices and games. She was shocked to learn there was not a similar hang out spot in the area down South. After some time, she and her daughter decided to pool their money and open Sweet Peas in July of 2016. Over the years they have grown the business from just ice cream to other snacks and goodies including hot dogs, nachos, soft pretzels, cookies, brownies, sides, and even tailgating specials. Owning and operating a small business can be hard and exhausting, but for Susan, the happiness and friendships that have come along with it has made it all worth it. She has enjoyed getting to know families and watching kids from the Town grow up. Some of her young customers even fulfilled their childhood dreams by becoming employees when they were old enough. One of Susan's favorite items and what she described as the "most fun" is their Ice Cream Nachos that include buttery wafer cookies, two scoops of ice cream, and toppings like whip cream, fudge or caramel drizzle, sprinkles, and nuts. A huge hit at Sweet Peas is their homemade cookies with buttercream frosting. Sweet Peas is open year round and even though it can be slower in the colder months, they love celebrating the time of year with their fall flavors that include pumpkin, red velvet, and pistachio ice cream. Currently, Sweet Peas is open six days a week from Tuesday to Sunday and will be open Mondays when the weather warms up. Their specialty items that you can find on their website are always made-to-order, fresh, and...made with happiness!
