Mission Statement:

The Oakwood School seeks to instill in its students the strength of character, the creativity, and the wisdom to make a difference in the world.

April 13, 2020

Dear Oakwood Families,

We, the Board of Trustees, have been thinking of you and your families during these unprecedented times and hope that you are safe and healthy. We are disappointed that we were not together for the annual Blue Jean Ball Gala & Auction last weekend, but we look forward to being back together in healthier times. Our community has stepped up to meet these great challenges, and we will get through this together.

The Board supports Dan's unwavering leadership and informative communications during these difficult times. The teachers, the administration, and Dan are working tirelessly to continue delivering our mission through distance learning. Every employee remains focused on our students' education, growth, and well-being in a virtual environment. Dan and his team are continuing to prepare for 2020-21 by re-enrolling current families, recruiting new families through a new virtual admissions process, adding a new morning bus service to better serve our families' morning commute, renovating space for the new SmartLab, improving campus Internet, and more!

The Board and its committees continue to meet as scheduled using virtual meeting platforms. In February, we formalized the Communications Task Force into a standing committee and created a new Security Task Force, both of which are priorities in the school's Strategic Plan. The school's independent audit firm issued a clean 2018-19 audit report. The Board is also finalizing our Head of School's employment contract extension through 2024 for continued leadership and stability.

Thank you to our many donors and Corporate Partners whose investments over the years have allowed Oakwood to assemble an outstanding faculty, to provide ongoing professional education and curriculum support, and to ensure that each student has one-to-one technology as a learning tool. This investment enabled Oakwood to successfully transition to a virtual learning environment on short notice.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our families, especially those fighting this pandemic on the front lines. We are proud to be members of the Oakwood family as our bonds are stronger than ever in the face of the COVID-19 challenges.

Stay safe,

The Oakwood School Board of Trustees
