SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS DAY

In recognition of Illinois School Board Members Day, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Patrick Broncato thanked the Board of Education members who serve as partners in education excellence for the benefit of our students and community.

SIPLEY SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT UPDATE

Dr. Donald Mrozik, principal at John L. Sipley Elementary, and members of the Sipley leadership team presented the school's school improvement goals for 2022-23 which include 1) expanding their knowledge of the Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) model of instruction whereby each teacher knows each phase of GRR and could teach it to someone, and 2) integrating cooperative learning in every lesson, every day and is at a level that is rigorous and leads to successful independent learning. Dr. Mrozik also discussed steps that Sipley staff has taken to support student learning, and identified successes and opportunities for growth that Sipley has experienced over the 2021-2022 school year.

ACADEMIC TRANSFORMATION PLAN GROWTH UPDATE

Assistant Superintendent for Teaching & Learning Greg Wolcott shared with the Board an Academic Transformation Plan growth update by reviewing the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and School Report Card designations, presenting 2021-22 college and career readiness via Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) scores, and reviewing continual improvement efforts.

TENTATIVE TAX LEVY & PUBLIC HEARING

The Board of Education approved the 2022 tentative tax levy as presented. Since the proposed increase is more than the 5% limit, as set by the Truth in Taxation Act, a public hearing will be held in December as required. The Board also approved the tax levy hearing and truth in taxation note as presented. Notice of the public hearing on the tax levy will be posted 1-2 weeks prior to the public hearing as required by law.


The tentative levy will be kept on file and available for public inspection in the business office until such time as the final levy, and the associated levy resolution, are approved at the regular December Board meeting, and the final levy certificate and associated documents are filed with the DuPage County Clerk and the Regional Office of Education by the fourth Tuesday in December, as required by law.

ENERGY PURCHASING AGREEMENT

The Board approved the utilities purchasing agreement with the Intergovernmental Utilities Purchasing Cooperative (IUPC) as recommended and discussed at the October 24, 2022 meeting. As a member of IUPC, this will ensure the best pricing and maximum savings possible as as the District procures and manages our natural gas and electric utility needs.

2023-24 TECHNOLOGY REFRESH

The Board approved technology purchases at an estimated cost of $700,000 and will be included as part of the 2022-23 and 2023-24 budget. The purchase will include the following:

  • 930 Chromebooks
  • 100 laptops
  • 10 docking stations
  • 10 computer monitors
  • 10 TVs
  • Miracast/Airtime licenses, as needed


Orders will be placed and pricing locked in for an anticipated summer/fall delivery and installation schedule.

IASB RESOLUTIONS

The Board of Education approved the IASB resolutions as discussed and agreed. Board member Stuart Vanorny will represent Woodridge School District 68 as the voting delegate at the IASB Delegate Assembly and Annual Business Meeting on Saturday, November 19, 2022.

The next Woodridge School District 68 Board of Education regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 12, 2022 at 7:30pm at the District Administrative Center.
