Targeted Reductions to Increase Spending on Facilities
The Board voted to reduce operational spending by $3.6 million for the 2019-20 fiscal year and to allocate that money toward the $42 million in infrastructure repairs identified in the 2017 Life Safety Study and infrastructure studies as well as providing for safety and security upgrades.

Although no levy hearing was required under the
Truth in Taxation
law because the estimated 2018 levy does not exceed 105 percent of the 2017 levy amount, a levy hearing was held at the December 17 meeting.
Levy for Fiscal Year 2018
After the levy hearing adjourned, the Board voted to adopt the 2018 levy in the amount of $83,039,557. The levy adopted in December 2018 will be applied to fund the 2019-2020 school year. As required by law, the Board estimated the 2018 levy amount at least 20 days before adoption,

The Board voted to approve the candidates for the Chief Information Officer position and the Director of Security position, the contracts for these positions begin January 14, 2019. Both positions are budget neutral for the current school year.
Licensing Agreement with the Georgia Institute of Technology
The Board voted to approve an updated agreement to license the Buzz, the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) Hornet, that Hinsdale South uses for its mascot.
Policy 6:310 High School Credit for Non-District Experiences; Course Substitutions; Re-Entering Students
The Board voted to approve the Policy Committee’s recommendation from the December 17 Policy Committee meeting on Policy 6:310 High School Credit for Non-District Experiences; Course Substitutions; Re-Entering Students. This policy stipulates that PE exemptions will only be granted for students participating in IHSA sports during the IHSA sport’s season.
Resolution Approving Issuance of School Bonds
The Board voted to adopt a resolution to place a bond referendum proposition in the amount of $130,000,000 on the April 2, 2019 ballot. The Board approved the consent agenda as presented. The consent agenda includes personnel, stipends, board bills, and meeting minutes. Consent Agenda items begin under number 7.
Final Exam Committee Recommendation
In the consent agenda, the Board voted to approve the recommendation of the Final Exam Committee, which means there will be no final exams for second semester seniors in spring 2019.
Board President Bill Carpenter wished students good luck on their first semester finals.
2019 Open Enrollment Tallies
As happens every year after open enrollment closes, Human Resources provided to the Board a report on open enrollment selections made by staff for the 2019 calendar year.
